Why We Endorse

The ChallengeHealth care organizations today struggle with pagers and outdated communication technologies that delay the delivery of care while impacting providers’ productivity and satisfaction. As a result, many providers turn to their personal or hospital-owned mobile devices for communication, which hospitals find difficult to protect against security breaches that compromise electronic patient health information (ePHI).

After a thorough review of solutions designed to address this issue, the American Hospital Association (AHA) has awarded its exclusive endorsement for Secure Messaging to Imprivata Cortext®. The Imprivata Cortext secure messaging platform enables organizations to eliminate pagers with a robust, secure communications platform.

The SolutionImprivata Cortext is a cloud-based health care communications platform that enables providers to securely communicate across their mobile device, tablet or desktop to better coordinate care across groups and multiple affiliated sites. Fast and easy to use, it streamlines clinical workflow efficiency and enhances staff satisfaction. Imprivata Cortext is an identity-based messaging platform, so alerts and messages reach every device or desktop the provider uses in real time. The platform goes beyond just secure messaging by enabling care team collaboration, mass communications and provider-to-patient communications inside and outside the hospital.

Organizations that also have Imprivata OneSign®, Imprivata’s authentication and access management platform, can leverage deep integration between the two products for auto-enrollment provisioning of Imprivata Cortext users, No Click Access™ to desktop communication and scan-to-sign-in mobile authentication. This speeds the onboarding and adoption process, which further improves clinical response times, provider productivity and patient satisfaction.

Designed to protect ePHI security, Imprivata Cortext is verified by an independent third-party audit agency for compliance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations as they pertain to communication of ePHI. Additionally, Imprivata provides all clients with a Business Associate Agreement to demonstrate compliance with the HIPAA Final Omnibus Rule.

A number of factors led the AHA to award its endorsement to the Imprivata Cortext Secure Messaging platform. Imprivata Cortext is distinguished by its:

• Sole focus on the health care field, which enables Imprivata to fully understand and serve the needs of hospitals and health systems

• Native desktop and Web-based platform for physician, nursing and clinical staff communications

• Multi-site messaging across the care continuum, which can improve care coordination, provider mobility, patient engagement and process efficiency

• Singular ability to enable physician, nursing, broadcast and patient communications

• Ability to support and optimize organizations’ specific workflows for improved clinical productivity

• Strong emphasis on facilitating user adoption, helping to maximize staff satisfaction and productivity while ensuring communication security

Communicate securely across any desktop or

device.

What Hospitals Say“Patient safety and satisfaction are top priorities for CHWC, so we are committed to giving our providers the best tools available to enhance the patient experience. It was clear that pagers were a detriment to this goal, often causing delays that frustrated both providers and patients. Imprivata Cortext overcomes the deficiencies of pagers by giving our providers a comprehensive, secure communication and care coordination solution. It allows our clinical staff to work more efficiently and keep focus on their patients. This has helped us improve our HCAHPS scores for responsiveness of hospital staff, which enhances patient satisfaction and improves outcomes.”

Key Features and Benefits • Secure Text, Photo & Group Messaging: All

messages are encrypted and not stored on the device.

• Enterprise Desktop Communication: Providers, nurses and staff can leverage a native desktop application for communication across every workstation in the hospital.

• Care Coordination Across Teams and Organizations: Providers can create and save personal groups, while administrators can create organization groups that everyone can access. For care coordination outside of the hospital, such as consults and referrals, Imprivata Cortext enables providers to communicate between multiple sites and locations, all within a single communication platform.

• Out-of-Network Messaging: Out-of-network messaging enables providers to send messages out of Imprivata Cortext to affiliated providers, consulting physicians and patients. Out-of-network communications are delivered via SMS and contain an encrypted link to a secure Web page where a recipient can respond once.

• Workflow Optimization: Streamlines clinical communication workflows such as e-consults and e-referrals, code team activations, medication order verifications and admission/discharge notifications. Imprivata offers unique workflow profiling services for health care organizations, which account for users, types of devices, device models and more.

• Cloud-based, Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) Technology: Does not require the expense and maintenance of on-premise hardware.

• Enterprise Management: Enterprise administrators can manage across-the-board settings such as retention periods, PIN enforcement, messaging archiving, time-out policies, role-based access, bulk licensing, remote wipe, AD synchronization and more. Administrators can also broadcast administrative or emergency alerts to all users at once.

“Our clinicians have been extremely impressed with the functionality and ease of use of Imprivata Cortext, which has improved productivity and enhanced patient care while maintaining compliance with HIPAA privacy and security regulations. Today we are extending Imprivata Cortext to go beyond secure messaging and integrate with our EMR for workflows such as consults and transition of care notifications.”

About the AHA EndorsementThe AHA Endorsement is the result of an extensive and rigorous process that begins with the identification of hospitals’ most significant market challenges and ends with the selection of the solution that best addresses them.

AHA SIGNATURE DUE DILIGENCE PROCESS™ The process begins when AHA Solutions issues a request for information open to all players in the field to submit their solution for consideration. AHA Solutions reviews all submissions to narrow the field to the top candidates for AHA Endorsement consideration.

Finalist criteria are stringent and based on a number of factors:

• The quality of the solution and its effectiveness in addressing the identified challenge

• Financial stability and long-term viability of the company

• References

After in-person presentations, extensive reference checks and a thorough review, AHA Solutions awards the Endorsement, typically for a one- to three-year term.

The AHA then works with the organization to educate member hospitals on the challenge at hand, and how the Endorsed solution can effectively address it. At the same time AHA Solutions promotes AHA Endorsed solutions to hospitals, it also works with the solutions’ vendors to help them understand, and better address, hospital challenges. The organization works to bring vendors and hospitals together to overcome obstacles and deliver better, more efficient, higher quality care.

When hospitals select a product or service that has earned the AHA Endorsement, they can be confident it has met the AHA’s highest standards.
