Windward faculty members have designedinnovative programs that challenge our studentsevery day. They have collaborated with professorsfrom leading universities to develop an active-learning instructional model appropriate forsecondary school. The techniques and technologyhave proven to more fully engage students in thelearning process. The classrooms, labs, andteaching spaces in the Science, Dance & MusicCenter and Center for Teaching & Learningpromote active learning and close collaborationbetween teachers and students.

Well Informed

“Speaking for The Edward E Foundation, we have been impressed byhow effectively Windward School has adapted the active learning modelto secondary education. This instructional paradigm has significantimplications for students and their ability to make sense of multipledata points. The collaborative nature of this model anticipates howstudents will continue to manage the increasingly ambiguous nature ofproblem solving so critical to learning. We will watch with care howWindward School develops this program, making it accessible for othersinterested in forward looking methods of teaching.”— Robert Hallett, Executive Director,

Edward E. Ford Foundation
