Youth and GovernmentThe Youth and Government team traveled to Austin

for YG State this past weekend. Nairn Cross was named outstanding club leader. We had 3 days of competition and did very well. We have learned a lot and are looking forward to next year.

Swim Team - District MeetThis past Saturday the Texan Swim and Dive team

competed at The University of Texas for our district swim meet. I am so proud of all of our swimmers. Almost everyone dropped time and received their personal record times. There were some athletes that qualified for the Regional Meet. Evan Mayhew is our District Champion Diver. He blew away the competition and finished 1st overall. Thom Naccarato placed 3rd in 100 Freestyle and 3rd in 100 Backstroke. Katy Heldstab finished 6th in 100 Butterfly and 7th in the 200 Freestyle. Silas Hatcher finished 8th in the 100 Breaststroke, barely missing the opportunity to compete at Regionals. Each Thom, Katy, and Silas had personal record times to be able to place so well.

Again, I am very proud of the entire team and how well they swam this weekend. Great job and I look forward to how far you guys can go next year. -- Coach Winebrenner

Wimberley FFALast week students of the Wimberley FFA competed

Project GraduationOur Project Graduation 2018 planning is underway.

Due to some unforeseen circumstances, we have definitely started late. We will still have a great party where the kids can enjoy their last high school day together with food, fun, and fellowship!

The plan so far:Venue: Altitude Trampoline Park 66800 West Gate Blvd Austin, TX 78745

The kids will leave right after graduation on buses and then leave the venue at 2:00-3:00am to head back to WHS. All students must ride the bus.Food: Pizza on bus in route to venue Chick-fil-A during the night Candy, sweets, drinks, slushesPrizes- Yet to be determined (depending on funds)

We are not requiring any payment fee at this time, but are starting with strictly donations. We would love to not have to have huge fundraisers these last few months. Donations are extremely important to get this project off the ground. If you know of businesses or family members that would donate, that would be great as well. If you would please mail your donation to:

Wimberley High School Project Graduation, PO Box 324, Wimberley, Texas 78676A 501(c) (3) non-profit organizationTax ID No. 47-5368739 OR Drop off at the school to Mrs. Uhlander and label ‘Project Graduation’.

Please remit your donation by March 9, 2018 to assess our finances. Much more iwnfo to come as things really get underway! Let’s make this night memorable for our seniors.

Sincerely, Project Graduation 2018 committee(Courtney Masur, Lori Nolen, Linda Richter, Christina Stoever, Kathy Rakowitz and Lisa Weeks)

#YOSEMITEBOUNDIf you’re a FRESHMAN and would like to travel to

Yosemite National Park June 6-10, 2018, please let Coach Barthels know - [email protected].

Art UIL News for ParticipantsThe deadline for entering the 2018 Art UIL meet is

TODAY, Febuary 1, 2018. See Mrs. Mial-Gary.

Wimberley to Host UIL Meet - Feb. 10UIL Parents: WHS will be hosting our annual Texan

Invitational on February 10th. We will need parents to bring items for our hospitality room for visiting coaches, bus drivers, and judges.

The following donations would be appreciated:· 12 pack of drinks (water, Coke, Dr. Pepper, Diet Coke, Diet Dr. Pepper, Sprite)· Packaged or homemade cookies, brownies, desserts· Bag of chips, pretzels, trail mix· Bag of M&Ms, Skittles, or variety of candy· Breakfast bars, coffee, creamer, sugarIf you would like to volunteer your time to work in

the hospitality room, please contact Mrs. Parker!

Attendance RecoveryStudents who miss more than 10% (4 class periods)

of any individual class must make up the time in that class to remain eligible for credit. Credit recovery for Fall semester classes has been assigned.

Students may make up the missed class time :- Tuesday morning from 7:20-8:20 in room 205- Wednesday afternoon from 3:35-4:35 in room 205- Thursday 7:20 am-8:20 am and/or 3:35 pm-4:35 pm in room 205- Friday evening from 3:30-7:30 in the WHS Library

Attendance recovery is not a disciplinary action. However, students who fail to complete attendance recovery in the assigned time are at risk of loss of credit and will be subject to discipline action.

For most students, failure to attend a class for the required state time constitutes excessive fall absences and puts them into automatic attendance recovery for spring. That means all absences not documented by a health care provider will be assigned to be made up. This prevents a back log of attendance recovery at the end of the year which threatens graduation and grade promotion.

SENIORS- You must be in good attendance standing (no outstanding attendance recovery) to participate in off campus senior events like senior trip.

Are you on track to exempt finals? 95% attendance required to exempt finals.

Speech and Debate Needs Your Help!Food banks are still reeling in our area from the influx

of additional food needed to supply hurricane victims along the Gulf Coast. The most pressing need is peanut butter. Easy to store and a long shelf life lead food banks to request this item the most. Therefore, the Texas Forensics Association has put together a service project for all schools attending the TFA State competition.

We have 3 students who will be competing at state: Ben Thomas, Logan Brookshier and Colten Kilpatrick.

Our project consists of collecting non-opened, nonperishable peanut butter. The school who collects the most peanut butter will be recognized at the awards ceremony on March 3.

Please help us collect as many jars of peanut butter as we possibly can by letting all of your students know about our service project. Peanut butter jars can be brought to room 105.

Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority ScholarshipIf you are familiar with our program from past years, you will notice some changes to this year’s scholarship. In an effort to streamline and make the process easier for applicants, we have shortened the application. This year we are asking for a scholarship resume, two typed essay responses, and two letters of recommendation. A checklist has been included in the PDF file titled “2018 GBRA Scholarship Application Packet” on the Wimberley High School scholarship website. There, you can also find a scholarship resume template to use. Another change we have implemented is applicants will now have the option to email their application packet directly to GBRA at [email protected]. The submission deadline is March 9th.

Rover.com ScholarshipRover.com is the nation’s largest online network of 5-star pet sitters and dog walkers. At Rover, we’re passionate about helping people achieve their educational goals. We’re offering a scholarship for $2,500 and it’s free to enter. Students will need to write an essay about how technology makes them feel and the role it plays in their life. Here’s the landing page for the scholarship with further information and rules for entry: https://www.rover.com/college-scholarship/.

Hays County A&M Club ScholarshpWe will be giving 4 scholarships at $500 each this year. These scholarships are available to high school seniors in Hays County that plan to attend Texas A&M University in the summer/fall of 2018. You can also view the Wimberley High School scholarship website for the application attachment. All applications must be postmarked by April 1, 2018.

Wells Fargo Academic Leaders Fellowship Program

Recipients will be announced in late April, and they will attend the inaugural Summer Leadership Summit in Charlotte, NC, June 27-July 1, 2018.

In order to apply, a student must first create a MyWFALFP Profile. The MyWFALFP Profile is a student’s portal for everything related to The Wells Fargo Academic Leaders Fellowship Program, including the application, and – if he/she is selected as a Fellow – all associated support services. For additional information, please visit the Wimberley High School scholarship website at https://hs.wimberleyisd.net.

Texas Telephone Association Foundation Scholarship

The Texas Telephone Association Foundation (TTAF), a non-profit, philanthropic organization founded to help further the understanding of telephony and advance telecommunications as a career choice, will award six, four-year scholarships, in the amount of $2,000 per year to students entering college for the 2018-2019 school year. Through March 30, 2018, the TTA Foundation will accept applications for scholarships to be granted beginning fall 2018.

Please note--special consideration will be given to students who will be pursuing a college degree in fields of study which are of particular interest to telecommunications (such as math, business, education, technology, engineering, and computer science, etc.).

An application may also be found on our website at http://www.tta.org/. Additional information can be found on the Wimberley High School scholarship website at https://hs.wimberleyisd.net.

Scholarship for Tech StudentsThe Lions Club has a special category for students

who will pursue a “Tech” career after high school. They are seeking students pursuing a TWO year degree or certificate from a Technical School or Vocational program. Students going to a “program” like x-ray technician, respiratory technician, nurses aide, or computer tech that will be completed in two years at a Tecnical or Junior College is what they are seeking.

Please do not apply if you are seeking a four year degree even if you start at a two-year junior college. They are willing to give some qualified applicant $1,000 a year for 2 years!
