Lorraine Hodgson, Principal, Message
Families and friends,
An exciting few weeks for Nemarluk School community. We signed
our Sister School Memorandum of Understanding in Aileu, Timor
Leste. Aileu is 2 hours up the mountains from Dili—map below. We
have worked for 18 months to get this organised and the future for
both schools is exciting as students and teachers connect. EBC
Aileu Vila School is attached to a Resource Center for Inclusive
Education that supports teachers to include students with disability in
education as is Timor Leste’s policy. Photos on the next page.
Thank you to Maria Albion: Principal NT English Language School in Dili, Kevin Gillan:
Director International Partnerships, Francisco Filipe: Timor Leste Consul General in
Darwin, and Tina Dasilva-Cruz at Konnekto. Without your help this would not have
come together for the benefit of both schools.
Secondly, we had a wonderful Harmony Day evening. Great to see everyone who
came considering the storm just before. Thanks to staff for their organising over term 1.
We launched our Super Plane playground crowd funding project : please share this link
and help us raise the $100,000 we need to complete this inclusive playground. Here it

Lorraine and Virg visited Timor Leste 6-8 March. The purpose was to develop and sign a Memorandum
of Understanding (MOU) between our school , Aileu Vila EBC school and the Resource Centre of
Inclusive Education. The MOU sets out our partnership as sister schools as we seek to connect students
and teachers in both schools. It was signed by the Director of the school: Tumas Gunda, Primary School
Coordinator: Joao Mesquito, RCIE Coordinator: Lourenco Mendonca, District Education Office: Filipe
Amaral Dos Santos, and Nemarluk School Principal: Lorraine Hodgson. A group of students with
disability were part of the process and gave a speech to say thanks you. We shared lunch to celebrate
our partnership. Thank you Gerio Patricio, SenaiNT, for amazing job of translating text, speeches and
conversation.

On Friday 17 March Nemarluk School had their annual Harmony Day celebration
and shared dinner. It was great to see so many families come out on the night
and enjoy a wide variety of performances from students and the Indonesian
Consulate Women's Group. Thank you to the families who brought food and

Term 1
The Alawa Class has four new students
this year who have settled into their new
school quickly. Students have enjoyed
going to the farm, investigations and
buddy class. We are excited that four of
our students have already received an
Alawa Honour Award, from the Principal!
We have been working hard behind the
scenes on our literacy, numeracy and
topic goals. We hope you like our photos.

Visit to the Royal Flying Doctor
Service (RFDS) The Nightcliff class visited the RFDS on Darwin waterfront as part of our “Sense of Place” task. The staff made us feel very welcome and all the students were engaged in the story telling through holographs and 3D technology. The students really enjoyed exploring the RFDS display plane and taking turns to be captain, co-pilot, doctor, nurse and patient.
Riley at the controls.
Watching the Bombing of Darwin film. The platform shakes!
Antonia with the radio equipment. The RFDS is exciting to visit!
