4th GradeTwo 60 minute lessonsIn this lesson the “Whole Grain Heroes” teach the students all they need to know about whole grain foods. MyPyramid recommends that half of all our daily grain choices be whole. Students will learn the difference between whole and refined grains as well as how to identify whole grain foods.

Lesson includes hands on activities and taste testing.Feed their brains with whole grains!

Taste-testing

• Give each student on a napkin 1 whole grain cracker and 1 refined grain cracker.

• As a class, take one bite of the refined cracker.

• Tell the students to let it sit on their tongue and observe what happens.

• Repeat the exercise with the whole grain cracker.

• Discuss the difference between the two crackers.

Watch out for: “100% wheat” “Multi-grain”
