the foundation of a republican form of government by
a) describing the individual rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness; and equality under the law;
b) identifying the contributions of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, Rosa Parks, Thurgood Marshall, and Martin Luther King, Jr.;
c) recognizing that Veterans Day and Memorial Day honor people who have served to protect the country’s freedoms.
The Founders of the United States believed that people have certain natural rights.
Natural rightsinclude the rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness or property.
All persons have natural rights just
because they are human
beings.
Everyone is born with these rights. No one can take these rights away.
These natural rights are also called basic principles held by American citizens.
The importance of these basic principles to American citizens.
• Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are privileges that people are born with and that cannot be takenaway.
•Life is the right to live without fear of being injured or killed by others. # 1

•Liberty is the right to be free. Some examples of liberties are the rights to believe what you wish, to speak freely, and to travel wherever you wish to go.

Pursuit of happiness is the right to own things such as books, a house, land, or a business.

Another basic principle held by American citizens is equality under the law. This means that all people are treated fairly.

Other Interesting Facts I found about Thurgood Marshall
Thurgood Marshall's great-grandfather was a former slave. As a freed man, his great-grandfather fought in the Revolutionary War.
Thurgood's mother was a teacher and one of the first black
graduates of Columbia Teacher’s College in New York City.
Thurgood’s father, a porter and steward, was the first black to serve on a grand jury in Baltimore during the 20th century.
Thurgood Marshall graduated with honors from the famous black college, Lincoln University, in Chester County, Pennsylvania.
Thurgood Marshall graduated from Howard University Law School in Washington, D.C. first in his class in 1933.
Thurgood worked as a lawyer with one of his most famous cases being Brown vs. Brown.
He served as the first black solicitor general, which is the nation’s chief counsel or lawyer.
Thurgood Marshall became the first black United States Supreme Court Justice.
