Fellowships (F30, F31, F32)• Candidate: US citizenship or green card holders

• Mentor: Principal investigator(s) who can provide mentorship in both research and career development, with the resources to support the research. For NCI, the primary mentor must have R01 or R01-like funding.

• Award: – Stipend (amount based on degree and experience)– Tuition and fees (60%, up to a cap)– Institutional allowance (health insurance, research

supplies, books, travel to scientific meetings)

Objective:

To provide support for trainees’ research training component in a MD/PhD program

Candidate:

Applicant fellow must have a baccalaureate degree and enrolled in a MD/PhD program

Award: $22,032 /yr; Tuition and fees: up to $21,000 /yr; Training Related Expenses: $4,200/yr; Up to 6 years.

Profiles of Successful F30 or F31 Predoctoral Fellowship Applicants

• MD/PhD students are in their 4th year of their dual-degree program when they apply (usually 2nd year of graduate school)

• PhD students are in their 3rd year of graduate school

• ~80% of applicants (F31 or F30) have research publications at time of application

• 40-60% of applicants (F31 or F30) have research publications with their mentors at the time of application

• 65% of F30 applicants and 40% of F31 applicants have been appointed to a T32 previously

Objective: To support research training for postdoctoral applicants who have the potential to become productive independent research investigators

Candidate: Postdoctoral Fellows (Finishing PhD/Early post-doc, yrs1-3)

Award: Up to three years’ stipend at $39,264 - $54,180/yr; 60% of tuition & fees up to $4,500/yr (or up to $16,000/yr for an additional degree); up to $7,850/yr for other research training expenses; full-time effort

Objective: To assist postdoctoral investigators in transitioning to a stable independent research position

Candidate: Senior postdoctoral fellows with no more than 5 yrs postdoctoral research experience about ready to become PIs. No citizenship requirement

Research: Laboratory-based cancer research

Mentor: Established investigator(s) who can provide mentorship in both research and career development; has the resources to support the research; Fully supports the candidate’s transition to independence

Award: K99 phase (2 yrs): Up to $100K plus fringe benefit, and $30K research support; R00 phase (3 yrs): $249K/yr; At least 75% of the candidate’s full-time professional effort
