Last week at the school Mass to celebrate the resurrection we had a few special visitors – thanks to the Kniepps and Border Vets! The message at the Mass was that Easter is all about new life and it is a time to renew ourselves and remember the gift of new life for each of us. The children

closed their eyes to think about their favourite baby animal. When they opened them the 3 ducklings, 3

dachshund puppies, a baby possum (joey) and a kitten had mysteriously appeared before them. Something to

remember! Not to mention the chaos that followed - it certainly was joyous!!!

During this year of Mercy we are invited to participate in a “gentle revolution” through our tender and meaningful actions founded on our

relationship with a forgiving God. One of the articles I read had 56 ways we can make our actions more merciful, so each week I thought I

would share one with you: Mercy Action # 12

Pray for someone who needs a prayer this day.

5TH

SUNDAY OF EASTER

24TH

APRIL, 2016

Introduction

The hard work of spreading the Gospel and

growing the church continues. It is an inspiring reality, despite the struggle, pain and hardship. There is always the enticing call of mutual, life-

giving love and the promise that suffering will be overcome. It is summed up in Revelation’s poetic

and symbolic vision of a new heaven, a new earth, a new order in which God will wipe all tears away. The work may be hard, but the promise still

beckons.

First Reading Acts 14:21-27

The early church grows as the Gospel quickly spreads.

Responsorial Psalm

I will praise your name for ever, my King and my God.

Second Reading Apocalypse 21:1-5

The vision of a new Jerusalem and the end of sorrow and death.

ALLELUIA! ALLELUIA!

I give you a new commandment: love one another as I have loved you

ALLELUIA!

Gospel

John 13:31-35 Jesus’ followers will be known by their love

for one another.

Prayers of the Faithful For the whole church and for all

parishes, especially those that are struggling … we pray,

For the ministries in this

community that need to be strengthened … we pray,

For missionaries and all who

continue to spread the good news despite challenges … we pray,

For the suffering who have not yet experienced any kind of comfort; and for those working to alleviate

pain and suffering … we pray,

For refugees seeking a safe haven and for those who are afraid to

welcome them … we pray,

For peace throughout the world and for peace in the hearts of all

people … we pray,

For the needy, the sick and the dying in this community; and for those who have died......... … we

pray,
