Principals MessageHappy New Year to All!

Our staff is excited about 2013;together everyone has been planning

and goal setting to make sure that all

of our students meet their learning

    potential.

I want to thank all of our Wekiva

families for their generosity in 2012!

We do wonderful work at Wekiva as a

    result of it.

As I have shared in the past, safetyand supervision is our first concern.

We are working on a few changes toupdate safety measures. Everyone has

    been very patient and understanding

    with these changes. Wekiva schedules

security drills to prepare for the event

of an emergency; however, these drills

    are not made public knowledge.

January is Safety Month and our

    classroom teachers will be reviewing

all safety measures.Attached to the newsletter is a

nomination form for anyone interestedin becoming a part of our School

Advisory Council. We need a memberfrom the community to fill one

position. We will follow the SAC

guidelines for the selection. A ballot

will follow if more than one person is

    interested in the position.

    Learning to read; requires reading!

At school, we work on the

instructional level of reading. Studentsshould be reading at home on their

independent level. Teachers assiststudents in the media center to read

books at their level so students can

    read independently. Teachers are

reporting many students are notreading at home. Students are also

sharing with their teachers they dont

have time, they dont have their book,

and the list goes on. For 2013, I would

urge everyone to set aside time to readwith your children, have them read to

you, watch them read as you read, orjust be sure they have time to read.

Wekiva is proud to announce thisyears Employee of the Year is Mrs.

Trawick. Mrs. Trawick is a supportfacilitation assistant who works with

students with Autism. She also started

the afternoon writing club for some of

our third and fourth grade students.

Wekivas Teacher of the Year is our

    Reading Coach, Mrs. DeBonville. Not

only does she work with students who

struggle with reading, she also assists

    teachers with reading interventions.

WANTED - ALL PRO DADWe are looking for a dad who would

like to be the Wekiva ALL PRO DAD

    contact person. This volunteer job

will require the set up an ALL PRO

    DAD breakfast, sharing with our

community how dads can assist at our

    school, and help administration recruit

more dads to volunteer on campus. If

you are interested, please contact, Mr.Hughes, at 407-746-3101. Remember

you must be a registered SCPSVolunteer/Dividend!

    CLIMATE SURVEYS

The Climate Survey is an important

    component of the School

    Improvement Planning Process. We

survey your perceptions based on your

experiences with the school. There is

no "right" or "wrong" answers. Items

surveyed have been designed toidentify different school

    characteristics. Historically, it hasbeen a paper and pencil survey;

however, it is now an online electronic

survey. If you do not have access to a

computer, please call the front officeto set up a time to come in to use our

computers. The Survey Web Site for
