Experimented with building with many types of materials..
Noticed kept coming across hobby sticks over and over...
Two Versions, Brown & White and ...
… multi-colored, which eventually became clear was best.
So one of the main ingredients is colored craft sticks!

Color Rubber Bands (Staples etc.)
Hardest to Find, Mechanisms…
Pick up Sticks (Toys R Us)
Spacers (Hardware Store)
Multi-Color/Size/Shape Beads & Blocks
(Toy Stores etc.)
Gears (Lego &/or Kelvin Catalog)
Started simple with pure mechanical structures.No electronics or computation …
First challenge was to simply to develop stable structures...
Eventually…
Worked up to the standard Bugs & Cars
