A reminder that the booking of time-slots for parent/teacher meetings needs to be happening, as well as the booking for seats for our Grade 6 + 7 Production, King Artie and the Knights of the Rad Table. Tickets for the latter, are to be done through Mrs Cheryl Coetzer, our School Secretary. Our annual Easter Service will take place on Friday 29 March in the Chapel. Details to follow. Our revamped website (interestingly, the world-wide-web (www.) is 30 years old this week) is in its completion phase, with the mock-up of the website ready this Friday. I am excited about its launch which will be the end of this Term. Last night, “project leaders”, PA members and the organisers of the J2C event, met at the Pavilion for a briefing and fine-tuning of the event. The organisers and original creators of the event completed the customary day 5 dry-run to Clifton Notties and were certainly grateful for the refreshments and warm welcome received by us all. My thanks to Mrs Clare Watt-Pringle for initiating and organizing this meeting. Please note that the “Drop and Go” zone at the JP parking area is NOT a long-term parking area. It is for exactly as the name suggests.

“Where words fail, music speaks.”

Hans Christian Andersen

Dear Parents/Guardian

This past weekend certainly saw “music speak” at the Collaboration of Choirs’ Festival at Michaelhouse where

Clifton performed alongside The Drakensberg Boys’ Choir, Michaelhouse and Maritzburg Girls’ High choirs

respectively. An honour indeed. I was very proud of our children…always a daunting moment stepping onto a

large stage for the first time and facing a sea of faces. My congratulations to Ms Cathryn Calitz, our music

teacher, who prepared our children beautifully. Congratulations and thanks too, to Mrs Karen Mckenzie (a

Board member and former parent) who was instrumental (pun not intended) in “making the concert happen”.

This week sees the final week of our traditional Summer sports, with the last of the cricket matches being played

this weekend. We are already “kicking into gear” with Rugby and Hockey conditioning and training stepping up a

notch in the days and weeks ahead.

A reminder that the booking of time-slots for parent/teacher meetings needs to be happening, as well as the

booking for seats for our Grade 6 + 7 Production, King Artie and the Knights of the Rad Table. Tickets for the

latter, are to be done through Mrs Cheryl Coetzer, our School Secretary.

Our annual Easter Service will take place on Friday 29 March in the Chapel. Details to follow.

Our revamped website (interestingly, the world-wide-web (www.) is 30 years old this week) is in its completion

phase, with the mock-up of the website ready this Friday. I am excited about its launch which will be the end of

this Term.

Last night, “project leaders”, PA members and the organisers of the J2C event, met at the Pavilion for a briefing

and fine-tuning of the event. The organisers and original creators of the event completed the customary day 5

dry-run to Clifton Notties and were certainly grateful for the refreshments and warm welcome received by us

all. My thanks to Mrs Clare Watt-Pringle for initiating and organizing this meeting.

Please note that the “Drop and Go” zone at the JP parking area is NOT a long-term parking area. It is for exactly

as the name suggests.

I came across the following short article which reflects on the (obvious) benefits and links of being barefoot and

the development of the brain. The link is:

Have a good week ahead!

Kind regards.

SHAVATHON 2019

Mrs Nikki Stokes writes: “Once again the Clifton families have touched our hearts. Cancer has affected the lives of so many and the happiness and fun which we had at the Shavathon at School on Friday is an example of how hope and the support of others can make a difference. A whopping total of R7446.00 was raised for the CANSA Association. A big thank you to everyone who supported us, especially to the amazing Interns who sprayed and shaved tirelessly. Thank you Clifton Notties!!”

GRADE 0s – CHAMELEON VISIT

Mrs Heather Kelland writes:

“We had a chameleon arrive in class this week and so all our planning went out the window and we had ‘chameleon’ day. We researched them, drew them, watched a story about one and revised the sound we are learning….c c c for chameleon, camouflage and colourful. A wonderful day full of impromptu learning.”

GRADE 4 FARM VISIT

Mrs Nikki Stokes writes:

“Well now, a dairy farm with horses to ride … How exciting! Thank you to the Van der Walt family who hosted us today at their farm. It was a hands-on day where we saw milking in the diary and got to "ooh and aah" at the calves. Fresh farm milk quenched our thirsts and a delicious chocolate cake made tea-time a treat. We ended our day with a horse ride and even the rain couldn't dampen our excitement. What a great way to see pastoral farming in action!”

NEWS FROM THE MUSIC DEPARTMENT

Ms Cathryn Calitz writes:

“What an opportunity! A concert alongside Michaelhouse, Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High School and the world-renowned Drakensberg Boys Choir School!

The Clifton Senior Primary Choir thoroughly enjoyed an amazing Collaboration Concert last Saturday at Michaelhouse. Singing in the massed choir was a highlight - with energetic movements, bright lights and big smiles of enjoyment! It was a privilege to be part of such a wonderful collaboration. My heartfelt thanks go to all those who helped, supported and attended the Concert.”

NEWS FROM THE SPORTS’ DESK
