WHAT’S HAPPENINGHost surveys – We Want to Hear from YOU!

Mark Your Calendars! The 2014 Host Survey is scheduled for the second week of July. The Host Survey is a tradition which dates back more than 30 years! The survey asks your opinion on subjects pertaining to your employment, including your supervisor, your pay, and your job. You also may include any other comments you feel are appropriate. The results remain anonymous and are compiled in strict confidence by our corporate office. Comments are typed and then distributed only to CEO Joel Manby, President Craig Ross, Vice Presidents Gene Scherrer and Amy Owenby, and Dollywood’s Splash Country General Manager Mike Brown. You may authorize your comments to be shared with your management team also. We encourage everyone to be honest and provide comments exactly as you feel. Your ratings and comments are valuable because they allow us the opportunity to see our Hosts’ point of view. More details about this year’s Host Survey will be announced in the July 4 edition of What’s Happening.

Congratulations to the entire Foods team for working hard to share our great mug value with our Guests. Mug sales are up thanks to the efforts of our Hosts. Our Guests can use the mugs for $.99 drink refills and $1.99 refills on specialty drinks until the end of the season. this ‘n’ thatOn-Park Season Pass Exchange Changes

The On-Park Season Pass Exchange next to DreamSong Theater is open on Saturdays through June 30. It then closes until we open for Dollywood’s Smoky Mountain Christmas. Please direct Guests interested in a Season Pass upgrade to any window at the front gate.

Pick Up Your Pay VoucherRemember to pick up your check voucher from your team as soon as possible.

We often attach announcements to them to ensure everyone receives important information in a timely manner. To take advantage of our Park Perks program, many participating partners require you to present your most recent paystub/voucher. Stay up-to-date on communication and pay information, and be prepared to enjoy Park Perks by picking up your voucher for each paycheck.

SAFE Y MattersBee Prepared

Bees, and other stinging insects, are out in full force. During the season, you are likely to encounter yellow jackets, wasps, hornets and mud daubers among others. These pesky critters serve a vital role in our ecosystem, but pose a threat to Hosts and Guests. While some may have to deal with the discomfort of a sting, others may deal with severe allergic reactions, also known as anaphylaxis.

If a Guest is stung and only has pain and/or minor swelling, please send them to the nearest Safety office. If they have a severe reaction, especially if it includes swelling of the tongue/throat and breathing trouble, call Safety at 9463 or 911 from any park phone and a medic will be dispatched to your location.

If you see one or two of these stinging insects flying around, simply try to avoid them; don’t swat at them. If you have a continued problem with them or if you see a nest, call Central Dispatch at 9463 to report it. They will come out and investigate. Do NOT attempt to take care of the nest yourself.

Due to the popularity of the Dollywood Park Perks Tickets for Carowinds, Kings Island and Six Flags Over Georgia, we are having a drawing for Hosts who would like to visit these parks.

We have been taking entries since June 16. The final day to enter the drawing is tomorrow (Saturday, June 21). Please stop by Human Resources to enter to win two tickets for one park. Winners will be announced Tuesday, June 24 via Yellow Board.

PARK PERKS

Parking PointersAs both Dollywood and Dollywood’s Splash Country become busier during the

summer, please keep the following parking pointers in mind: • For everyone’s safety, pedestrians should walk in clearly marked crosswalks. Also, all drivers must stop and yield to pedestrians in all crosswalks. • Due to the width of the Host Shuttles, these vehicles sometimes must use both lanes when navigating to and from the Host parking lot behind Human Resources. Kindly share the road by stopping and waiting when you see the shuttle passing by the Human Resources Office. • Always drive at walking pace along the shuttle route and in the Host parking lot. • Be mindful of Host Shuttles, pedestrians and other vehicles at all times. • No stopping is permitted along the driveway next to HR. All parked/stopped vehicles must be in a designated parking space.

Thank You for an Amazing Barbeque & BluegrassThanks to every team who contributed to a GREAT Barbeque & Bluegrass

experience. Stages were set throughout the Park and the cooperation among teams was fantastic. Visiting performers were very complimentary of the friendliness they received from everyone in the Park. THANK YOU!

FRIENDLYHosts Needed

First Focus – SAFETY – Celebrating our Success

Our number one focus always is the safety of our Guests and Hosts. For each month in which our Host Safety Scores are better than the score from the same month last year, we celebrate our success. Unfortunately, for the month of May, Dollywood and Dollywood’s Splash Country had more safety incidents than in 2013. This is an opportunity to remind all of us to keep safety top-of-mind. We do want to congratulate Dollywood Cabins for improving their Host Safety Score. To celebrate their success, we selected a winner from all Dollywood Cabins Hosts for a $50 prize. Congratulations to Julia Cordero from Dollywood Cabins Housekeeping, our First Focus Host Safety winner for May.

Look for information on Friendliness and NetPromoter scores in the next issue of the What’s Happening.

4 Love every moment

summer… A seAsonof opportunity

Summer brings many childhood memories to mind… like making a wish and blowing dandelion seeds into the breeze, a thirst-quenching drink from the water hose or mustering up the courage to jump off the high dive at the pool. With kids out of school and the workdays long, it’s a great time to make a plan so all of summer’s opportunities don’t fly by.

What opportunities you ask? Here are things you might not think about: • Long hours and lots of work = a great time to save up for the leaner winter months. • Propane is priced much lower in warmer months. Don’t miss the opportunity to save and have your tank filled when the price it right. • Back to school is just around the corner. Begin setting money aside now for the things you know your kids need. Remember the Sales Tax Holiday Weekend is August 1-3. You can purchase clothing, school supplies and computers tax free in Tennessee. • Going to college? Save now for books and other surprise expenses that pop up. • Yes, December is a little more than six months away. Save money now so you won’t be stressed when Christmas shopping season begins.

Above all, we hope you don’t miss the small things that truly are the big things in life… like making summer memories with your family and friends. And, when you’re tired and the heat is sweltering and you might feel a tad bit discouraged, remember God loves you and has a plan for you and your family… and a hope for a bright future. Praying you all have an amazing summer!

Humana’s dream is to help people achieve lifelong well-being. We want Dollywood Hosts to live happily and enjoy good health, so we offer these health tips. For more healthy living tips, go to humana.com/resources/healthy_living/wellness_tips.

Living with Summer Allergies • Change the filters in your furnace and air conditioner. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Change the filters more often if it seems to help.• Adjust your indoor humidity level. Humidity of less than 50% helps control mold and its spores. Use a digital thermometer that shows the humidity level. A dehumidifier can help you get the level below 50%. Put the dehumidifier on the main living level of your house.• Check the pollen count before you plan your day. Visit American Academy of Allergy Asthma Immunology and click on the map. You can even sign up to have your daily local pollen count e-mailed to you. If the pollen count looks like it’s going to be high, wait to run errands or exercise until after 4 p.m. when pollen counts are usually lower. Don’t forget your allergy medicine, and wear sunglasses to help keep pollen out of your eyes.• Manage your yard. Know which tree, grass, and weed pollens set off your allergic reactions. Try to remove them and use other plants that don’t cause problems for you. But remember, airborne pollens can travel hundreds of miles. And, since cutting the grass stirs up pollens, it’s a good idea to ask or hire someone else to mow the lawn. Also, avoid fresh-cut grass.• Dry your clothes in a clothes dryer, not on an outdoor line. Just as it can stick to the clothes you’re wearing, pollen can cling to bed linens and clothes hung out to dry.
