WE DON’T TEACHSUBJECTS, WE TEACH YOUNG PEOPLE

THE ALDER GRANGEDIFFERENCE

NOT ALL SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES ARE THE SAME. WE OFTEN TALK ABOUT THE ALDER GRANGE WAY BUT WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? WELL, IT’S SIMPLE REALLY.

WHETHER IT’S HISTORY OR GEOGRAPHY, MATHS OR HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE, OUR TEACHERS FIND A WAY TO CONNECT WITH EACH INDIVIDUAL STUDENT. IT’S ABOUT FINDING WAYS TO BRING SUBJECTS ALIVE WITH RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE, VISITS TO ART GALLERIES AND BATTLEFIELDS ANDINVITING GUEST SPEAKERS INTO SCHOOL.IT’S ALSO ABOUT SO MUCH MORE THAN THAT...

‘STUDENTS ARE WELL INFORMED ABOUT THE WORLD OF WORK.

ALL PARTICIPATE IN WORK EXPERIENCE, WHICH THEY FIND AND APPLY FOR THEMSELVES.TEACHERS GUIDE STUDENTS THROUGH THE PROCESS OF CHOOSING AND APPLYING FOR A UNIVERSITY PLACE EFFECTIVELY’

Sam Cardy

Sam secured a place at Lancaster University to study English Literature and he’s already planning for his next step after his degree – he’d like to return to Alder Grange to do teacher training through the SCITT programme.

With a keen interest in poetry and short stories, he’d also like to become a writer.

He said: “The teachers at ag6 are very dedicated to their subjects at A-Level. They have a big influence on the atmosphere of the class and they are really enthusiastic – it’s obvious they’re passionate about their subjects.”

Isaac Haworth

Isaac came to ag6 from BRGS and is going to studyBusiness Management at Leeds Beckett – it’s a hands-on subject which he’s always wanted to explore further. He chose ag6 because he liked thesmall class sizes and already knew a lot of friendswho were students here – he knew it was a good school.

He said: “It’s like a really close-knit family and you get to know everyone really quickly. You get more help with subjects because of the small classes and the teaching is excellent – really hands on and classes are fun. The sixth form building is very modern, too.”

Sophie Leigh

Sophie studied Level 3 Applied Science and Cambridge Technical Sport at ag6 - she’s since joined the University of Central Lancashire for her degree in Sports Therapy.

She chose ag6 because of the friendly staff and thegreat results that previous students have achieved.

She said: “The reputation of ag6 was what attracted me to study here. The advice and guidance I was given when applying for university was fantastic – I couldn’t have made the choice without the help of the teachers in ag6.”

Jade Rawstron

Jade is studying A-Levels in History, English Literature and Psychology at ag6, with her sights set on studying for a Psychology degree at university.

Moving up to ag6 was a natural progression from Alder Grange for Jade – so much so, she didn’t look to go anywhere else.

She said: “I didn’t even consider looking elsewhere to study after high school, I knew ag6 was the right place for me. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, the teachers are so enthusiastic and as students, we’re all treated as individuals.”

Harry Holt

Harry is currently a Year 13 student at ag6 and is studying A-Levels in Chemistry, Biology and PE.

He said: “I chose ag6 because of the great relationships you build with the teachers and staff. The class sizes are small which means theteachers can dedicate quality time to each student.

“The building is purpose-built for sixth form – having specialised subject areas and being separate tothe main school makes you feel more independent, which is good preparation for university life.”

A-LevelsSome A-Level subjects build on studies at GCSE level, others are completely new. If there is a subject you’d like to study that is not listed, please speak to us about it, as we may be able to offer it in conjunction with one of our partners.

You should consider combinations of subjects which go well together and would meet your future plans but, more importantly, select subjects you think you will enjoy, as you are far more likely to be successful when you enjoy what you are learning.

Applied CoursesOur Applied Courses are taught in specialist teaching facilities. These can all be blended with A-Levels or mixed to provide a balanced timetable.

All courses concentrate on the applications of the subject within a genuine work-based environment and are likely to include more work placements than A-Level courses. These are all Level 3 (some can be taken at Level 2 if appropriate).
