Careers Update Bulletin – 18th June 2020 Tertiary Education The Columba Careers Website is a one stop shop! You will find information on every University in Australia and many other institutions – their website, scholarships, early entry schemes, alternate entry schemes, application information, adjustment factors and course guides. For all information go to https://www.columbacareers.com/ Australian Catholic University (ACU): Latest News! ACU have been looking at a range of ways to help and support students during their final year of schooling – from exam support to university admission. ACU are hoping that these programs and activities will help students gain confidence as they approach exams, and provide some certainty around university entry, in a deeply uncertain time. The university have packaged all the ways ACU is supporting Year 12 onto a single web page https://www.acu.edu.au/study-at-acu/support-for-year-12-students that makes it easier for students, parents and teachers to find what they’re looking for. Launching this year is the ACU Guarantee program https://www.acu.edu.au/study-at-acu/admission-pathways/acu-guarantee, which will allow Year 12 students to gain entry to ACU based on their Year 11 results. Opening in August for 2021 applications, the ACU Guarantee program will see offers made as early as September – although students must still complete their Year 12 exams to qualify. Those concerned about their Year 11 results can also choose to apply for additional adjustment factors by submitting a statement outlining personal circumstances and motivation for university study. Other programs providing flexible entry include special access schemes https://www.acu.edu.au/study-at-acu/admission-pathways/i-did-not-get-the-atar-op-rank for each state, and the Schools Relationship Program https://www.acu.edu.au/study-at-acu/admission-pathways/choose-your-pathway-or-entry-program/recent-secondary-education/adjustment-factors. The Schools Relationship Program automatically adds up to five adjustment factors to the selection rank of students who attend a school with a close relationship to ACU. This includes the Catholic school students in your remit, so long as the student has selected ACU as a preference. Professor Greg Craven AO, GCSG Vice-Chancellor and President James Cook University:

Career Pathways

What is a Sports Physiotherapist?

The Health Times website indicates that sports physiotherapy is a specialised branch of physiotherapy, and sports physios provide advice on how to avoid sports injuries, treat injuries and help recovery for those playing recreational sport right through to elite sport. A sports physio is a registered physiotherapist who has achieved further study after completing a physiotherapy degree - in which students achieve an understanding of the physical, structural and the physiological aspects of human form and movement. To become a sports physio, one will first need to complete a four-year bachelor degree in physiotherapy. Alternatively, students can complete an associated bachelor degree, such as in exercise physiology, followed by a postgraduate qualification in physiotherapy. Physiotherapists can later choose to practice in sports physiotherapy but are unable to refer to themselves as a sports physio until they have achieved titled membership of the Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA).
