Page 13: What we do matters!

I've come to the frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element in the classroom.

It's my daily mood that makes the weather.

As a teacher, I possess a tremendous power to make a child's life miserable or joyous.

I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration.

I can humiliate or humor, hurt or heal.

In all situations, it is my response that decides whether a crisis will be escalated or de-escalated and a child humanized or de-humanized.

~Haim Ginott

NO ONE IS PERFECT…BUT WE MUST STRIVE TO RECOGNIZE THAT THE DECISIONS WE MAKE DAILY DEEPLY IMPACT THE LIVES OF OUR STUDENTS.

How do your words and actions impact your classroom environment and your students?

Consider:*use of sarcasm

*word choice & decision making when disappointed/upset

Students are always watching us…what do you want them to see?

Consider writing:• A quote you liked or one that resonated with you• An idea a peer shared with you throughout the session• A pep talk for yourself for those days when you just “need it”• Something you just want to keep in mind this year
