Yellow Bus Tours will be leaving Hedrick Middle School for an “Under this World” journey though time. All adventure seekers are encouraged to participate in this voyage into the underground tunnels of ancient lava tubes. Travelers will walk (and sometimes crawl) through caves created by volcanic eruptions up to 450,000 years ago! The tour will also include a Waterfowl walk with a chance to see up to six million birds! For more information and lots of pictures visit www.nps.gov/labe or search for Lava Beds National Monument on the web. There are several sites with good pictures and information. It is extremely important that students are dressed appropriately for this trip. The caves are 32 degrees and require a heavy sweat- shirt. The ground is rough and uneven. Stu- dents must wear good fitting sneakers that do not slip on and off. Long pants are also a re- quirement, as the caves are cold and have many rough surfaces. Students also need to have a helmet or hard hat to wear in the caves. Bicycles helmets work well. A rain slick- er or poncho is also recommended. NO UM- BRELLAS ALLOWED. Tours will leave

Hedrick Middle School

on Tues. Oct. 15, at

7:15 a.m. for an awe-

some adventure. You

will see hot lava frozen

in time as you explore

a few of the hundreds of caves and lava tubes. At

Tulelake refuge you can see thousands of birds

including white pelicans, bald eagles, sandhill

cranes, redwing blackbirds, herons, geese and

ducks. Other wildlife you might see include deer

and otter (hopefully not as big as Stanley’s) . Flat

even spotted a coyote on his last trip! Keep your

eyes open—and bring binoculars!
