Daily attendance is im-

portant to student learn-

ing. While we under-

stand that students get

sick and family emergen-

cies happen, we also

know that important les-

sons are missed when a

student is absent. Alt-

hough some homework

can be made up, there is

hands-on learning that

takes place in the class-

room daily. Please try to

have your student at

school, on time, daily.

New state attendance

laws will require Barber-

ton City Schools to revisit

their attendance policies.

Students will be consid-

ered ‘excessive ab-

sences’ when:

Absent 38 or more

hours in one month

with or without a legit-

imate excuse

Absent 65 or more

hours in one year with

or without a legitimate

excuse

Students will be consid-

ered ‘habitually truant’

when they are:

absent 30 or more

consecutive hours

without a legitimate

excuse

Absent 42 or more

hours in a month with-

out a legitimate excuse

Absent 72 or more

hours in a school year

without a legitimate

excuse

Legitimate excuses for attend-

ance purposes are defined as fol-

lows:

Illness of student

Illness of family requiring

presence of student

Quarantine of home

Death of relative

Medical or dental appoint-

ment

Observance of religious holi-

day

Emergency or other circum-

stance in which school deems

sufficient cause to miss

New Student Attendance Laws

ONLINE EMERGENCY FORMS

dent field trips.

A computer is available in the office for you to use if

needed.

2. Be Respectful

3. Be Ready to Learn
