What process is adopted by users when they develop a family based on family template?

Generally when a standard component family is developed by Revit users in Family Editor they are encouraged to select a meaningful family template based on which they can start developing their family. Once a pertinent or applicable family template is selected by users they are required to select a name for it and then save it appropriately. Family should always be named on the basis of the component that is created by it, so that the component can be described adequately simply by the name itself. When, family development is completed by users, its name displays in Project Browser at the time when it is meant to be loaded in the project. The family name also displays in Type Selector.

Method adopted for developing a family which is based on a template

For developing a family from template, users are required to open Revit, and then click ‘New’ and eventually select Family.

After this a family template should be selected by users and for doing so, it’s better to preview it first.

Once users are clear about which family template to choose for the family in making, they are required to select it and then click ‘Open.’

Once a pertinent family template is selected by users, the current family file opens in graphical design model of Revit, which is called Family Editor.

Once a family opens in Revit Family Editor, in most of the cases reference planes are reflected in front of users.

These reference planes are very imperative for Revit users as they help them in developing family geometry.

In case when Revit users develop host based family, there are chances of Revit displaying host geometry.

After this users are required to access Project Browser wherein they should observe family views list. If in case they want to include additional views they can do it easily by modifying the existing views. And for modifying an existing view they are required to duplicate a view and rename it accordingly.

Once additional views required by the users are also created they can save the family by using Save As option.

Before saving the family, enter an appropriate name for it and then save it.

By following this method Revit users can develop effective families from templates.
