Characteristics of a Dystopia
1. Leaders attempt to maintain the illusion of a perfect society through control. Propaganda is often used.
2. Information, independent thought, and freedoms are restricted.
3. A leader, figurehead, or concept is worshipped.
4. Citizens are under constant surveillance.
5. Most citizens have a fear of the outside world.
6. The natural world is distrusted in favor of man-made
goods. Futuristic technologies are often prominent.
7. Citizens conform to uniform expectations. Individuality and dissent are bad and often lead to trouble.
