Indiana Dairy Producers Farm & Industry Tour to Illinois March 30-31, 2016 What do others say about previous IDP tours: Seeing something rather than just reading about it has a much larger impact ! Tour Details

Wednesday, March 30, 2016 At 8:00 am EDT the bus departs Meijer’s

Parking Lot, 4901 IN-26, Lafayette. Around

8:45 am EDT, the bus will also pick up folks in

Kentland at the Red Roof Inn near US 41 and

US 24. Our first 3 farm visits are in the Fair-

bury, Illinois, area. We will tour Slagel and

Zehr’s heifer facilities, and we will tour Kilgus’

Dairy & see their processing facility. We will

enjoy a box lunch which will be provided. Our

final first day stop will be in Tremont at

Sauders’ River Valley Farm. There

is an evening banquet planned at

our hotel in Bloomington, Illinois,

and Dr. Mike Hutjens will be our

keynote speaker.

Thursday, March 31, 2016 Breakfast will be provided at the

Holiday Inn. The bus will depart

around 8:30 Central time for our first stop at

Kasbergen’s Stone Ridge Dairy. We will stop

for lunch, sponsored by Dairyland Seed. Our

final stop is Butlerview Farm. The bus will ten-

tatively arrive back in Lafayette around 5 pm

Eastern Time.

Bus Transportation will be provided from Meijer’s Park-

ing Lot , 4901 IN-26 in Lafayette . In addition, there

will be a pick-up point in Kentland near US 24 and US

41 at the Red Roof Inn. Call Doug Leman if you have

COST: $225 for 1st Person, additional people

sharing the same hotel room: $100 each.

You must be 2016 IDP member or affiliate to

attend the tour. If needed, we will happily extend

regular or associate IDP membership for $50.

Slagel Farm

In 1997, the Slagel family sold their dairy cows and started custom raising heifers. Currently, they raise 2100 head of heifers for Seven Hills Dairy in Indiana.

Zehr Acres Family Farm

Zehr Acres is a 7th generation family farm and began raising dairy calves in 1985. Now they custom feed heifers for four dairy operations. Heifer calves are picked up at birth and raised to 8 – 10 mo. of age. The operation maintains an inventory of 1800 to 2000 head, 750 head of which are calves in individual hutches.

Kilgus Dairy and Farmstead The Kilgus family is a 4th generation dairy & grain farm, milking 150 Jersey cows. Today, they pasteur-ize and bottle all of their milk and distribute it around Central Illinois and Chicagoland. The Kilgus’ have a Farmstead Country Store, with a viewing window of their creamery. Meat, dairy products, local honey and many other items are sold at the store.

River Valley Farm

River Valley Farm is a 300-cow, family farm operated by Gregg and Cindy Sauder and their seven children. The farm was founded in 2006 and is home to more than 125 of the Jersey breed’s highest genomic fe-males, three U.S. National Champions, two World Dairy Expo Grand Champions, the 2014 World Dairy Expo Supreme Champion, a Canadian National Champion and many All-American and All-Canadian nominees and winners. Their commercial Jersey herd utilizes Lely robotic milking units.

Kasbergen’s Stone Ridge Dairy

Kasbergen’s Stone Ridge Dairy began in October 2002. Currently, the farm milks 3200 Holsteins in a double 50 parallel parlor. They have 35 employees and farm 2000 acres of row crops.

Butlerview Farm

This award winning dairy has tremendous Holstein genetics and show cows. This tour will provide a unique opportunity to see show cattle, cattle barns and learn the philosophy of this dairy family. The farm is located in Chebanse, Illinois.
