As a family of students, parents, and staff, we can be very proud of the growth and achievements we made together. The season went by very quickly, which is an indicator of the intensity at which we all worked to achieve our goals. The art that we create in performance requires great effort from our students, parents, and staff, and there is not enough time or space to properly show appreciation for all involved...but I'll try! To our parents - The support our students receive is second to none. The Greenwood Band Parent Organization provides an immeasurable amount of volunteer, logistical, financial, and moral support for our students. Mom Short, Mom Firrie, and our Box and Guard Moms provide the care and time it takes to make sure our students look and feel their best for performance. Dad Haynes and our Pit Dads work tirelessly to construct and provide the upkeep for our beautiful pieces of artwork we use on the field to help the students tell their story. They also work in the heat and the cold to load, unload, and transport our equipment, allowing our students to focus solely on preparing to perform. Mom Yeater and her crew work to make sure our students have sustenance to perform on. Behind the scenes, Dad Buennagel, Dad Gruhlke, Mom Hayes, and their volunteers run our concession stand to raise money for our activity. Mom Williams and the sewing committee work to make, adjust, and repair uniforms and flags. Dad Minardo, Dad Short, Dad Werner, Mom May, Mom Wilson, and the rest of the executive board work to help coordinate all of these efforts and make sure we have the resources we need to be successful. All of our parents provide their children with transportation, food, instruments, equipment and all of the other resources it takes to be successful. This is only a partial listing of all of our outstanding parent support. To all of our parents - THANK YOU. To our staff - It takes an immense amount of teamwork and coordination to provide our students with what they need to be successful. Our bus drivers and transportation department work diligently to make sure our students get to their performances timely and safely (and they are outstanding fans of our students). Our custodians take care of us at home to make sure our facilities are clean and in good working order, help us with emergencies and setting up for events. Our school administration provides the support and logistics necessary to operate our program. They truly support our students and want to see them be successful. Our design staff believes in giving us a product that our students can shine with, while pushing them to develop and refine their skills. We are very fortunate to have Don Barrett, Jack Pursifull, Greg Hagen, and Tod Hinton to give us such outstanding and consistent productions. Mr. Fletcher works tirelessly alongside me doing an immense amount of preparation, logistics and teaching. Mr. Kalugyer also works incredibly hard to prepare our students to the best of their abilities. Travis and Gabe are outstanding teachers and mentors for our students and work very hard to produce outstanding musicians and people. Mr. Ybarra has worked hard with our students during his student teaching this semester. Reyn has been an outstanding addition as the leader of our color guard, shaping them as outstanding performers and people. Celeste has been instrumental in helping Reyn get the guard to perform at a high level. Mrs. Wishmeyer provides a great deal of teaching and support for our students. We have been fortunate to have had many other great teachers for our students this fall, including Thomas Thawley, Logan Fox, Todd Clevenger, and Jon Sutton; and an outstanding collection of alumni and band camp staff have been available for our students to learn and grow with. Last but definitely not least, Mom Knartzer has kept us organized and has helped guide us through the marching season. THANK YOU. To our community - A great thank you goes to our sponsors who provide resources for our activity. We get great support from the City of Greenwood and its Mayor, Mark Meyers. Not many band programs would have such outspoken support from the mayor, superintendent and principal! The recognition and support we get from our community is an outstanding! To our students - Your commitment to excellence has been our guide throughout the season. Seniors and upperclassmen, your commitment to the ideals of excellence this program is built on has provided you and your peers the drive that it takes to be excellent in our activity. Band Council, Drum Majors, Guard Captains and Section Leaders, thank you for your work, leadership and musicianship. To all students, your hard work has yielded great growth and outstanding performances for the band this year. Your efforts have proven that hard work and excellent preparation will result in excellent performances. You can be proud that your efforts have upheld the legacy of the Greenwood Marching Woodmen and you have positively contributed to its future. THANK YOU. I consider myself very fortunate to be involved in a band program where all work together to accomplish a common goal of excellence through performance. As a result, we have had performances that improved from week to week with amazing performances from our students at the end of the season. To have our students recognized as 2014 Class B State Champions is a perfect way to culminate a season of great achievements! I am very proud of our students and our program. But wait....we're not done!! Our students are currently working on many opportunities to grow in performance and represent themselves and the band program through our concert bands, jazz band, pep band, winter guards, winter percussion, solo and ensemble, and many other activities. As we celebrated Thanksgiving, please remember to be thankful of all of our blessings and I will look forward to seeing everyone at our events throughout the school year. Sincerely, John Morse

What an incredible 2014 marching band season!

To our staff - It takes an immense amount of teamwork and coordination to provide our students with what they need to be successful. Our bus drivers and transportation department work diligently to make sure our students get to their performances timely and safely (and they are outstanding fans of our students). parent information and fundraisers

Any student wishing to participate in Winter Guard or Percussion and/or

purchase State Championship memorabilia must be current on band/guard fees

Please check email for your student's account statement to see credits or debits resulting from payments and fundraiser participation. See below for a reminder of how fair share fundraisers work.

Donna Wilson, Treasurer, GBPO [email protected] 317-727-3833

Mail payments to: Or pay via credit card: GBPO ghsband.org PO Box 903 click on "Pay Band Fees" Greenwood, IN 46142

Thanks for your commitment to this great program!

Fundraisers There are two mandatory "fair share" fundraisers that are held to help keep band fees down, one in the Fall and one in the Spring. Additional fundraisers include the Scrip Program and parking cars at the local Indy racetracks. More information will come home as opportunities come up.

Fair Share - Each student is designated a "fair share" amount that they are responsible for with two options: 1) sell the designated amount (or more) of the fair share 2) opt out of the fundraiser and pay the designated dollar amount

If a student sells more than their designated fair share amount, they will receive credit for a portion of the extra items sold.

example: If the "fair share" amount is to sell 14 items, but the student sells 18, the student will receive credit for a portion of the additional 4 items sold.

Band Account Each student will have an account where band fees, payments, and any credits earned are tracked. The treasurer sends out statements periodically to parents so you will be aware of any balances due or credits accumulated. You may carry over credits from one year to the next for band fees.

Spring fair share fundraiser will begin January 12

Information will go home with your students. This year we will be offering a Brozinni Groupon to be purchased instead of making our own pizzas. More information to come as the fundraiser gets closer. If you have questions, please contact Sarah Hayes at 317-777-4443 or [email protected]. • Groupon is sold for $10.00 for a $20.00 dine-in only credit. • One per household. • One per table when dining in. • Single use only, no cash returns. • Excludes Beer & Wine • Excludes catering orders • Excludes tip • Not valid with any other coupon or promotion • $4 from every card sold will go back to Greenwood Marching

Don’t know what to buy for the guy who has everything or the teen who wants to pick out their own clothes? How about teacher gifts or something for the mailman? Think Scrip! Smaller denominations are available for the holidays and Great Lakes Scrip sells holiday themed wrappers/cardboard sleeves, 10 for $2. Gift cards are a great way to say thank you to those who have made a difference in your life this year, and buying them through Scrip saves you time fighting crowds at the mall, and saves you money, as it puts money in your student’s band account at the same time. Each week, orders paid by check received by Friday morning or paid online by Sunday, 7:00pm will be ready for delivery by the following Wednesday or Thursday. So place your Scrip order by Sunday, Dec. 14, to ensure delivery in time for the holidays.

Over winter break, Scrip orders will still be placed on Sunday nights, but please contact Suzy @ [email protected] or 881-3943 to make arrangements for a direct handoff of any cards that have been ordered. Scrip Now products and reloadable amounts to previously purchased cards will continue automatically per normal.

To get started, go to www.shopwithscrip.com and register using our band's code: 927F8F5127546
