1 Newsletter No. 24 - Term 3Week 5 Thursday 11 August 2016 What a wonderful time we all had at our production. Robin and the Sherwood Hoodies may prove to be our most popular production yet. We have had tremendous feedback from parents, and the students themselves just loved the theatre and the whole experience of being on stage. Everyone loves seeing their child on stage and in production, particularly singing, dancing and acting, and act these children certainly did! Our main cast had two nights of being on stage and they certainly used every minute of it to display their talents. The quick repartee, the jokes delivered with aplomb and the slick timing, gave us all a very enjoyable experience. I certainly hope these children do take up the opportunities in secondary school to continue their acting experiences. Productions like these do not just happen. There are so many people who support production from the staff that actually run it to all the people who put make up on their children and dress the children with costumes. I wish to thank Paul Todd and Cheryl Henry-Wild for their tenacity in working every day, lunchtimes, after school, recesses with the students. This production was Paul’s first as Music Teacher and certainly will be a highlight for him. Supporting Paul and Cheryl were the whole staff who were singing and dancing with their children through practices and organised many props, costumes and notes home. (I have a feeling they REALLY enjoyed the singing and dancing practice with their grades!) Of course, experiences like this cannot happen without the support of our parent community. So many parents volunteered their help and support and I do thank everyone who did so. Each detail of the production puts together to make a whole and so for everybody who helped behind the scenes the details were ticked off and put in place so that all of us could sit and say, “what a wonderful night it was”. Now my thanks goes to our wonderful children throughout the school. Watching the little Foundation children up there on stage was a highlight for our new parents. The ooohsand aaahsas the little ones came on was a real joy to hear. It doesn’t matter if they don’t dance exactly in line – we love them all the more for it. Of course, these children will be the ones to carry on the tradition of production in two years’ time. I’m sure we all enjoyed the dancing on stage; the Highland Dancers, the Violinists, and all the actors and dancers. It was two great nights and we will certainly remember them. Thank you to the whole Kalinda Community for supporting Robin and the Sherwood Hoodies! CURRICULUM DAY Next Friday, 19 th August, is a Curriculum Day. SAKG NEWS

Voting For CUA Community Care Now Open!

Voting for CUA Community Care is now open and we’re keen to get as many votes as we can! To recap, we have entered this community-focused initiative run by CUA to be in the running to win $5,000 for a school project of our nomination –a new Outdoor Learning Centre. Our project is to build an outdoor learning centre in our existing vegetable garden area. The students will use the outdoor learning centre as a project centre for our gardening studies. Activities will include: seed saving, organic gardening practices and native plant studies. We’re up against 19 other schools in the area to take out the $5,000 prize and, as the winner is determined by community voting, we need your votes! To learn more about the program and our project proposal, please visit www.cuacommunitycare.com.au and select our school from the drop-down menu. Voting is simple; you can place your vote via this website or go to the local CUA branch. Your local CUA branch is at Eastland Shopping Centre. The branch details are: Shop 1067, Eastland Shopping Centre, Maroondah Highway, VIC 3134 Phone: (03) 8878 5000 (Coles entrance, near Priceline Pharmacy and travelator up to Big W) Don’t forget, every person can vote once online AND once in the branch. Also, voting is open to anyone so please feel free to get friends and families involved and voting. So, place your votes and help us be in with a good chance of winning $5,000 to improve our school!

CANTEEN NEWS It would be appreciated if families with more than one child could submit one lunch order bag per child. Each child needs to have their own order written out clearly in blue or black pen (preferably). It is the responsibility of each child to place the order in their classroom canteen basket; this ensures that it is returned to the correct classroom at lunchtime. If you require us to provide a paper bag, please remember to include the 10 cents in your final total. Thank you to everyone who is purchasing the Sticky Beak re-usable canteen bags. It certainly makes our life easier trying to pack the lunch orders. Please write your child’s lunch order clearly and place in the zippered pocket along with the required money. Change will be returned in this pocket. Print out a name and class tag for FREE from the Stickybeaks website – stickybeaks.com.au. This clearly identifies the lunch bag. If your child has the same lunch order each time, there is no need to write out a new slip of paper, keep using the same one. Remember that your re-usable lunch bag holds food so please empty and wipe clean internally and externally with a damp cloth after use, as you would a lunch box. Thank you for choosing to re-use; you are helping to reduce paper waste in our school. Thank you also to our students who are writing lovely comments on their lunch order bags and drawing pictures for us to admire. It brings a smile to our faces when we see them. We are looking for 1 helper on the 9

th September. Please let me know if you can come in.
