Advantage of the Maxhydro design

In addition to their major advantage, Maxhydro have no in ternal moving parts, no screens, no spray nozzles, no pumps. There is nothing that can break down, clog, or wear out ! As a result, NO MAINTENANCE IS REQUIRED, other than the simple removal of collec ted dust sludge.Static pressure drop across the Maxhydro unit is much less than in many other venturi collector designs. This reduces fan power requirements and saves energy. In addition, wear of the venturi inlet section components is negligible. With explosive dusts

and powders such as magnesium, aluminum, titanium and other explosive materials, Maxhydro units are safe to be used inside of the workplace, and cleaned air can be discharged back into the plant providing great savings in powerrequirement, ductwork, required air make-up, and reduction of heating/cooling costs. In addition, the Ultimate unit is not only competitively priced, but it also comes with a five year warranty – one of the longest warranties offered for this type of equipment. If any of the internalparts need replacement, Air Quality Control, Inc. will supply the part free of charge

A Leading-Edge, High-Performance CompanyThe AQC Dust Collecting Systems division manufactures a full range of safe, industrial dust collectors, as well as dust and smoke capture equipment at the leading edge of air pollution control technologies based on more than 30 years’ experience in the field.

AQC’s strength lies in its innovative products designed and developed to generate substantial savings throughout their entire operating life.

AQC is renowned for its technological innovation, safe and sophisticated equipment design, as well as its robust and precise product manufacturing. For example, the unique design of the baffles inside AQC dust collectors makes filter cleaning easy. The AQC cartridge holder design provides maximum filter surface and enhanced filter performance. The ultra-smooth concept inside AQC fume arms makes them maintenance-free.

In short, AQC equipment is designed and built to generate substantial operating savings in terms of time, money and energy. This translates to major reductions in operating costs – from 10 to 20% – throughout the equipment’s service life. This scale of savings can represent a significant portion of the equipment’s total purchase price. Companies looking to maximize their profitability should factor in these savings when purchasing equipment.

The unique design and manufacturing of AQC equipment generates significant savings for various reasons :

• Substantial increase in the duration of filters.

• Lower energy consumption during years of use.

• Significantly less maintenance (easy to clean, robust manufacturing, a minimum number of more reliable and durable parts).

• Reduced operating costs (less frequent overhauls, lack of or minimum down time, etc.).

• Lower administrative costs (coordination, follow-ups, supervision) due to much less frequent breakdowns.

• Safe design can prevent serious or even fatal accidents.

• Increased comfort and productivity of personnel.

Equipment acquisition cost

Equipment operating cost* : energy, filters, maintenance, overhauls, repairs, breakdowns…

Equipmenttotal cost

The acquisition cost is just one part of the equation. It’s the total cost including the operating cost *throughout the life cycle of the equipment that must be kept low. This is what AQC delivers. The advanced technology, design, robustness, durability and safety of AQC products generate major savings during the equipment’s entire life cycle.

AQC Quality Control, Inc., a new leading designer and manufac turer of dust control equipment, has developed a new system that can solve your dust control pro blems ore effectively and with less expenses than conventional systems.

The Maxhydro unit has no internal moving parts, filters, or sreens, no spray nozzles, no pumps or motors - nothing inside that breaks down, clog, or wears out.

Maxhydro is extremely effective on both light and heavy loads of most kinds of dust and fumes. Examples are: processing and finishing of aluminum, magnesium, titanium, stainless steel, plasma cutting, plasma hot metal spraying, laser cutting, melting furnaces, remo-ving dust and odors from green sand mould, cooling and shake-out ope rations, removing dust from shot blast operations, grinding and buffing, etc. The Maxhydro provides extraordinary high collection emciency for the smallest and mots-difficult-to-handle submicron mate rials, including even “blue smoke”that have particles less than 0.3 microns in size!

The Maxhydro unit is also designed ope rate with minimal main-tenance. The water level in the collector chamber is automa tically controlled and never enters during operation the venturi section, so it can’t corrode or wear the metal surfaces. Once the chamber is filled, additional water is required only when water is lost or sludge dispos-al. The calculated humidity of the discharge air at 70oF indicates that little water evaporates in this process.

Air Quality Control, has 38 years of expe rience in designing dust and fume control equipment, inclu ding complete dust control system extraction hoods and enclosures, Maxhydro unit is one of the best wet-type sust colletors available.

Two basic types of Maxhydro units are available: the MS Type and PS Type. The MS type features 24 sizes or models with an air capacity of 400 c.f.m. to 30,000 c.f.m. and three types of sludge disposal me thods: hand rake-out, mechan-ical sludge conveyors and sludge discharge through the drain valves. Most MS Type units in style A, B and C, include buil d-in high efficiency blowers with non-overload-ing characte ristics. The PS Type features 40 sizes or mo dels with an air capacity of 3,000 c.f.m. to 750,000 C.F.M. The PS Type uses conveyor sludge discharge through drain valves. Ask for Brochure Form #A-200.

The MS type Maxhydro unit is designed with quiet operation in mind. The motor and fan assembly in these collectors are fitted on rubber mounts to elimate vibration. In addition, the motor covers are internally lined with a sound-deadening, noise-absor bing foam. As a result, noise from the collectors has been reduced to about 70-75 dbA.

THe MS Type Maxhydro units are also designed for durabil-ity. These collectors are usually constructed of welded mild steel sheets reinforced with steel rolled angles or flat steel bars, although stainless steel sheets can also be used.

MS Type units, style A and B consist of one main section, Style C and D, consist of two or three sections. All are manu-factured from extra thick, heavily reinforced steel or stainless steel sheets. The inlet scrubber is manufactured of abrasion resistant steel sheets, and mist eliminator plates are stain-less steel.

All internal surfaces in the MS Type units are treated with al least three coats of paint which are abrasion, corrosion and heat resistant. The external su faces are protected by paint which is corrosion and heat resistant, and the finish coat color based on the customer’s specifications.

Each collector is also fitted with one or more access doors to facilitate inspection of internal parts.

The PS Type units are ideal for cleaning large quantities of polluted air.

HOW THE MAXHYDRO WORKS:

Contaminated air is accelerated from the scrubber inlet through the venturi section and forced deep into a reservoir of water. After passing slowly out and up through all that water, where most contaminants are immediately removed, the air is next drawn through thick columns of wate ron both sites of the inlet venturi, where remaining dust and/or

1. Dust-contaminated air is drawn into the colletor/inlet scrubber.

2. The air is channeled at high speed through the venturi section.

3. The air is then forced deep into the water chamber, where most of the dust is seperated form the air and collected by the water.

4. Next, the air is drawn torward baffles shaped to produce a thick column of water on each side of the inlet scrubber where the remaining dust is seperated from the air.

5. The clean but moist air is then drawn torwad the mist eliminator plates, where all moisture is removed.

6. The clean dry air is drawn out by fan, then discharged into the plant.

7. The collected dust settles to the bottom of the water chamber, where it can be removed by hand rake-out, mechanical sludge clearance, an elevated hopper, or discharged through a drain valve.

Principle of operation

fumes are collected. Moisture is only clean dry air is discharged from the Maxhydro unit. Approximately 9”W.C. is all the static pressure needed for many applications.

The sludge of collected dust can be removed from the scrubber be several easy methods:

• Hand rake into an external container (MS Type) provided with unit.

• Fully automatic drag-bars sludge/dust conveyor

• Discharge through hopper drain valves

MAXHYDRO COLLECTS SUBMICRON CONTAMINANTS EXTRAORDINARILY WELL:

When some (or even all) of the pollutants that must be collected have particle size less than one micron, an extended venturi inlet section is used to allow the Maxhydro unit to operate with increased water depth. This provides longer submerged re sidence time so the contaminants can be effectively wetted and collected. Pressure drop across such”Submicron Maxhydro” units is increased to approximately 16” – 18” W.C.

The deep submergence of air into such tall columns of cleansing water assures dust collection efficiency of 99.0% or greater for all particles from 0.25 to 5 microns of grea ted (Total dust load by weight.)

Foundry dust and smoke, chemical dust and fumes, paint par-ticles, grinding dust, polishing or buffing dust, indoors or out-side, underground or in the air - wherever the hazard exists, at Air Quality Control, Inc. we’ve made it our business to go after dust. Air Quality Control, Inc designs and builds high-

ly effective collection systems to suit your own requirements if neccessary. Because our equipment is so simple and skillfully contrived, you’ll find it surprisingly economical to both pur-chase and operate.

Let air quality control settle your dust problems !

Page 7: WET TYPE DUST COLLECTOR · Dust-contaminated air is drawn into the colletor/inlet scrubber. 2. The air is channeled at high speed through the venturi section. 3. The air is then forced

The accurate prediction of the performance of the Mark III Precipitaire wet type dust collector requires careful assessment of the chemical and physical properties of the dust under con-sideration. At Air Quality Control, Inc., complete facilities are provided for this purpose.

To determine the chemical characteristics, dust samples are first examined to find their reaction with water under still and turbulent conditions, and the Ph value of the resulting solution is measured. Any protective measures regarding interior finish applied to the collector necessitated by undue corrosive action, are then taken. The physical behavior of the dust under opera-tion conditions is observed by passing dust samples through a standard Mark II Precipitaire wet type dust collector used for test purposes. Tendencies toward foaming, for the dust to remain in suspension, and other allied problems are then considered and a suitable remedy applied.

The precise assessment of collective efficiency is usually of great importance. This intricate procedure is described below:

At the commencement B.S. Seives down to 200 mesh are used giving a quantitative analysis of the dust particles down to a minimum size of 76 microns. That portion of the dust below this size is further analyzed down to cell developed from the original Andreason apparatus

Some dusts due to solubility or to very low density, cannot be

analyzed by this method, in which case air elutriation methods are employed.

Utilizing the curve and applying it to the standard grade effi-ciency curve for Air Quality Mark III Precipitaire wet type dust collector shown in figure 2, prediction of collective efficiency can now be made, due to allowance being made where neces-sary for density transportation.

The prediction of efficiency is contingent on the precision of the size analysis. Considerable experience is essential for accurate and reliable results. Air Quality Control, Inc. offers to its cus-tomers a high standard of technical and scientific research at the beginning and throughout the entire project - to guarantee customer satisfaction in every way.

The importance of a sound and advanced Scientific and Technical service through all stages of a project of this nature cannot be over-emphasized. Air Quality Control, Inc. provides a service pre-eminent in this field.

Dust Clogs Up The Works

Worse than that - dust can kill ! Dust can choke both men and machines, cut man hours, impair efficiency and prove to be an explosive hazard. Dust can force early replacement of parts, production lags and ultimately causes needless expenditures for machinery.

The MS Type Style B uses a conical hopper and drain valves for sludge disposal. This system is ideal in applications where the discharged sludge or slurry can be taken to a settling tank or drained continuously (where water supply conditions permit). Also, in applications where the dust con-cerned presents no cakin or settling prob-lems, it is possible and often economical to periodically clean the MS Type Style B system manually.

The MS Type Style C uses a drag bar conveyor to mechanically remove sludge from the settling tank and to discharge it at a convenient height for final disposal. This system is particu-larly recommended in applications where continuous sludge removal is necessary and where manual clearance would be both costly and inefficient. In applications that don’t require continuous sludge removal, the conveyor can be activated by a timer to perform for a specified period at predetermined intervals. Normally, this kind of sludge disposal method is fitted to collectors with a capacity of 2,000 C.F.M. or more. A

Standard MS Type Style C consists of a one-fourth or one-half HP geared motor and a drive sprocket with a shear pin to pro-tect against overloading or jamming with a 438:1 ratio. A chain drive connects to the conveyor drive shaft. Adjustable bearing blocks carrying the drive shaft make provision for conveyor chain tension control. The driving sprockets and idler wheels are made of cast steel, and the idler shaft bearings and water seal assembly are fitted outside the tank. The steel angle and rubber scraper are attached to an adjustable iron chain which has been tested with working loads of up to 2 000 lbs.

TYPE – C1 Models and dimensions

A drag bar conveyor, incorporated with this design, pro-vides for the mechanical removal of sediment from the settling tank and for discharging at a convenient height for final disposal. It is recommended particularly where the dust load is heavy and continuous removal is therefor necessary and where manual clearance is essential. In other applications, the conveyor is activated by a time clock for a given period at predetermined intervals. Two designs of conveyor are available: the standard conveyor, generally suited for light dust loads, and the heavy duty type for more severe applications. Normally this form of dust collection is fitted to collectors with capacities of 4,000 CFM or more. Standard design consists of a totally enclosed motor run-

ning at 1725 RPM driving through a friction clutch to a reduc-tion gear with a 438:1 ratio. A chain drive then connects the conveyor to the driving shaft. Provision has been made for conveyor chain tension control by adjustable bearing blocks carrying the drive shaft. Driving sprockets and idler wheels are made in cast steel and the idler shaft bearings and water seal assembly are fitted outside the tank. Steel angle scraper flights are fitted to maleable iron chains tested to a working load of 2,000lbs. For more severe applications with high dust loads or heavy density sediment, the heavy duty conveyor is clutch, and the drive assembly is designed to accommodate a torque of 330 foot pounds using heavier conveyor chain with additional scrapers.

Page 12: WET TYPE DUST COLLECTOR · Dust-contaminated air is drawn into the colletor/inlet scrubber. 2. The air is channeled at high speed through the venturi section. 3. The air is then forced

The MS Type Style D can handle a larger capacity of air from p to two inlets. The fan and motor are mounted externally and can be fitted either on top of the collector (if site conditions permit) or on the floor level. Since the MS Type Style D collec-tor comes only with two rake-out chutes on either side of one

collecter, this system is best suited for light dust loads such as from grinding machines in a tool room or polishing or buffing machines. Each MS Type Style D comes with a hand rake and sludge bin.
