President’s Letter

The West Charlotte County Republican Club was very active last month. The

Month started off at our social event at Leverocks Restaurant with 26

attendees on February 7th. I have to say the staff did a great job with serving

2 drinks each, salad and appetizers for a cost of only $10. There was a lot of

laughter, remarks on the first weeks President Trump has been in office, and

conversation of future activities. My hat goes off to the board members who

are working hard making plans for future events.

On February 17th Ray Corcoran and I appeared on WENG talking about the

West Charlotte County Republican Club and a few of the activities that will be

taking place and how active the club is becoming along with information

about what is happening in our county and the nation. There were additional

conversations on how the WCCRC is bringing expert guest speakers on topics

that affect all of us.

The monthly meeting was held on Feb 21st and we had a great turnout with

a well-designed agenda where we had a slide show that was put together by

Kelly Hood, guest speaker was Doctor / Charlotte County Commissioner Chris

Constance talking about Medical Marijuana in the state of Florida. The

presentation was outstanding along with healthy conversation. We had our

own member speaker, Jeannie Rogers speaking about immigration.

On February 22nd Ray Corcoran, John Stanwix, Nina Stamoulis and I

attended the REC (Republican Executive Committee). There were many topics

covered however the committee wanted to do a sign waving event on

Monday the 27th supporting President Trump. Much conversation took place

and there was four areas in the county that were chosen as best locations for

the event.

Monday the 27th THE WCCRC had over 25 members and guest show up on

Placida road in front of one of my offices waving signs from 3 PM until 5 PM.

What a hoot it was seeing and hearing the reactions from cars going. I have

to tell you I’m amazed at the dedication and loyalty to the Republican party

and to THE WCCRC. Each of us make a difference and I thank you. When I

recap not just this past month’s activity but the years gone by I sum it all up

with the word ATTITUDE. Please read on and let me know if you think I’m

right on Attitude.

ATTITUDE

Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.

As a young kid I was blessed to have a mentor who instilled in me that I could be anything I wanted to be as

long as I did what was right and become the best I could with the understanding there were prices to pay and

having an "I can attitude". I had friends that looked at life as if they were dealt a bad deck of cards. I later

learned the difference was all about Attitude whether it is positive or negative. In my life I learned my

happiness and success depend not so much on the problems I faced, but on how I responded to them. A

positive attitude removes the rust from our minds and motivated me to accept challenges. Believe me I have

had my challenges just like many of you. With an “I Can” attitude we can choose actions over apathy, courage

over fear and growth over stagnation. Just look at President Trump and the things he is faced with daily.

An “I CAN ATTITUDE” is self-motivating for me and I believe for the most part it also impacts the happiness and

success of others around me. I know when I’m with people with positive attitudes it becomes contagious.

Many times I ask myself is mine worth catching?

This may sound a little crazy but the longer I have been around the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.

Attitude, to me is more important than facts and many times talents.

See if you agree with this. When you play golf or other sports and in golf you have a 6 ft putt to make and the

question is how to react to the challenge. Do you really believe you are going to make that putt or do you feel

that it will be lucky if I make it? How do you react to it? I can tell you if you truly don’t believe you will make it,

guess what? You most likely will not make it. If you truly believe you can make that putt you have a totally

different experience and have a much better chance. Life is the same way, if you believe you can’t, you will

never be disappointed and at the same time miss out the wining experience. Believing you can instills

confidence, learning and you find ways to succeed. Add prayer and there is no stopping what can be

accomplished.

I mention all the above for I see so much potential in our members who have more to offer and in most cases

are much more experts than I am on many topics. I would love to see those qualities used in WCCRC. Please

reach out to me for we need your voice, your expertise and your ability to make our organization stronger.

March Speaker: Lucienne Pears,

Director of Economic Development for Charlotte County

Lucienne Pears grew up in Binghamton, a small blue collar

town in upstate New York. After graduating from Seton

Catholic High School, she quickly headed south for col-

lege, graduating from Salisbury University in Maryland

with a Bachelor’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning.

Lucienne’s first few years of professional work were in environmental planning

in the greater DC area. After visiting family in West Palm Beach in February

2000, when the DC metro area was snowed in, Lucienne was officially a Florida

resident by the spring of that year embarking on a ten year career in land use

and development. Lucienne relocated her family to the Gulf Coast in 2002

working for civil engineering firms on land use entitlement and construction and

development projects. With the Recession hitting the land development and

construction industry hard, Lucienne shifted her career focus to Economic De-

velopment. After a year in Marion County establishing that County’s first eco-

nomic development department, Lucienne was lured back to the Gulf Coast in

Charlotte County and has been with the Charlotte County Economic Develop-

ment office since 2010. Lucienne has served as the Director of Economic De-

velopment for Charlotte County since January 2016.
