I will continue to manage our website and welcome any material our members would like to add to it, and I encourage you to also send photos and articles to Liz to help make our newsletter more of a team effort. This is your club, and our communication tools are here for you to use. Why don’t we start running some member ads? Surely somebody is looking for parts or for a buyer. This is supposed to be the time of year for us to put some New Year’s resolutions in place. There are often difficult to keep but it is certainly worth a try. I am hoping to go on two tours this year and attend one giant car show. One tour is in mid-May and is the annual Buick Driving Enthusiast Tour right here in Georgia and Alabama. The other tour is in mid-June and is the AACA Sentimental Tour up in North Carolina, open to cars between 1928 and 1958. Details are on the AACA website and in our magazine. Maybe we can get a group of us together. And in mid-July the Buick Club of America is having its 50 th anniversary bash at the Nicola Bulgari complex in Allentown, PA, with a thousand cars expected. We plan to fly in for that one. Our club may be interested in a modest local tour up to Cartersville this year to exercise our cars and visit a museum. That is an easy day trip. We also want to think about an overnight tour that takes us just a bit further from home and allows time for more socializing and sightseeing. It is not too early to brainstorm ideas. Here is a real easy one, and very local: Mark your calendars now for our annual January slide show social at the Novak’s house on Saturday, January 16th from 2-4 after lunch at La Trattoria restaurant in Car- rollton at noon, as we did last year. More details to follow via email. Coffee and hot tea will be served. Anyone who has not paid their $15 local dues should send them along to Gary at 203 Scenic View Lane, Carrollton 30116. Or you may bring a check or cash to our January event. Our club still needs to distribute donation checks to our selected charities, so let’s make that a priority for January or February. We will be sure to get some photos of the presentations. Please let me know if I can help with this. Our next regular dinner business meeting is back at American Pie at 6:30 pm on February 4 th . We will not meet there in January. Enjoy the Ride! Glenn President’s Message January 2016 JANUARY 16 - LUNCH AT LATRATTORIA WITH DES- SERT AND SLIDE SHOW AT THE NOVAKS!

Our AACA 2015 Christmas PartyBy Glenn Novak

Our 2015 West Georgia Region AACA Christmas Party was a great success, thanks to Liz and Rick Horne and all the other folks who attended our event on December 12th. We had a group of 18 last year and 24 this year and it is always good to see growth in our club, and the Horne’s large workshop/garage area was ideal for both our buffet meal and annual gift exchange.

Our group this year consisted of the Moyses, the Dun-cans, the Smiths, the Nichols, Ellen Ferris, Geoff Fleck, the Novaks, the Hummels, the Hearnburgs, the Coverts, the Heilmans, guests Evan and Phillip Block and, of course, the Hornes.

We all enjoyed tasty, home-made appetizers and a va-riety of wines and other drinks and got to look around the wonderful shop areas. Newcomers and club veter-ans got to examine close-up several models of Pierce-Arrow, Bentley and Model A Ford. Liz cooked us up a delicious buffet dinner. We enjoyed our tomato pepper soup and roast pork in fruit sauce, rice pilaf, spinach quiche, and broccoli. The time flew by as usual and sev-

eral folks helped themselves to seconds, and later to a dessert of carrot cake and coffee.

Our tables were artistically decorated and enhanced by home-made snappers, a party favor of European origin which pops when opened, revealing contents of gold crowns, candy and silly holiday jokes. This was some-thing new and interesting for many of us at the tables.

It was soon time for our annual Grab Bag gift exchange known as “Dirty Santa.” It is always lots of fun to see what our friends purchased and wrapped up and then the reactions of those opening up the bags and boxes. Many gifts were again “stolen” this year. It was a crazy time with lots of laughter. Anybody not getting their first choice gift can only wait with high hopes for next year. We were glad to see some new faces this year and to share laughs and good cheer with them as we began to approach the holidays.

Thanks again to Liz and Rick Horne for hosting our annual event and to Carol Moyses for lending a hand during food set-up, and to all those who helped with car parking on a very long driveway in the dark. We all thoroughly enjoyed an evening of fine food and won-derful fellowship. Our car club people are great and we all appreciated the special Horne hospitality for our 2015 party.

Raises $9,000 For Men’s Homeless Shelter in LaGrange And St. Jude’s Hospital

Everyone loves a cool car. Some love it so much that they buy them, drive them around town, and even join clubs to talk with other like minded people. How-ever, even when a passion bonds people, they can still come together and help out the community in need. The Georgia/ Alabama Region of the Antique Automo-bile Association of America is one of those organiza-tion dedicated to helping those in need. This amazing car club hosted their annual meeting to redistribute funds that they have collected for char-ity. The lovely Carriage and Horses restaurant in Pine Mountain hosted the party with an amazing selection of food and some of the most beautiful scenery that the eye could see. The members gathered to fellowship and talk with one another as well as to enjoy an amazing selection of food. Once the real meeting began, it was truly clear how much these individuals cared about giving

back and helping the community around them. This year the club raised over $9,000 for charity, a new record for the whole crew. $4,500 dollars was presented to Mr. Jimmy Pruitt with the Men’s Home-less Shelter here in LaGrange and the other half of the funds will be presented to St. Jude’s Hospital, which has always been the clubs national charity. This was the club’s 34th annual show with 106 entries. While most of what went on was catching up and members that had not seen each other in quite a while coming back together, there was so much more go-ing on than just car talk. This is a group of people that truly care about the world around them. They were kind, funny, and aware of how they should give back. It was an amazing time of fellowship where old members reunited and new friendships were made. Their collections for charity have grown in value every year now and surely this time next year they will go to even further links to make sure that they help those that need help.

1. Called to order: 7:05PM by Glenn Novak.2. Introduction of Cameron and Boyce Covert who are joining the club. They have a 1954 MGTF.3. HB & Linda Phillips (former members) dropped in on the meeting to just say HI to the members they remembered.4. Minutes and Treasurer’s report for September reviewed and approved.5. Old Business:

a. Reminder to keep Debbie Novak up to date on member status and any address changes.6. New Business:

a. Club officer nominations was discussed. Proposal to keep all existing officers in place for another year. No refusals or objections from existing officers. Voting was unanimous.

b. Club participation in the Carrollton Christmas Parade was discussed. Paying to participate and requirement for early line-up helped the club decide to pass for this year.

c. Club Christmas party plan and discussion was taken off the table when Rick and Liz Horne offered their home/shop for the party. Club members offered any assistance necessary for preparations.

d. Dues for 2016 will be collected starting at this meeting.e. Charity donations were discussed. The club has approximately $2000 available for distribution. Nominations, discus-

sion and voting identified three charities we would give $700 each:Wounded Warrior GarageGerman Shepard RescueCalvary Children’sHome

Final plans on how to present these checks are not complete. Last year the checks were given out by the Club members most closely associated with the nomination. We will try to do that again this year, as long as we can get the checks there before Christmas.f. Glenn Novak recommended no club meeting for Dec. Approvedg. Glenn & Debbie Novak invited all club members to their home Jan 16th for deserts and slide show(s). Slides of car

shows from this past year and possibly slides from historical races (if the presenter can get his stuff together and remember what it is we are looking at). Those attending are also invited to LATrattoria Restaurant (corner of Maple Street and Adamson) for lunch prior to desserts and slides. Time will be announced.

h. Meeting adjourned at 8:00PM.i. Program on touring with antique cars was presented by Liz and Rick Horne. The objective is having fun at a slower

pace. Think of it as an8th grade field trip in old cars. Most tours travel on side roads and take in local attractions that have been prearranged by the tour director. Because of the slow pace normal with old cars, wide gaps are recom-mended between cars so local non-participating drivers can move through a tour without severe interruptions. There are generally two types of tours: Progressive Tour, where the tour destination changes each day. Hub Tour, where the individual day tours always return to one location.
