WE INVITE YOU TO JOIN USJoin leading thinkers and change-makers at the inaugural Town Team Movement Conference, in Perth on September 14 & 15, as we explore ideas and challenges on building vibrant town and suburban centres and strong cohesive

communities through place leadership and activation.

In this new century characterised by disruptive social, technological, economic and political change: How do we help communities to reconnect? How do we inspire, encourage and empower citizens to start activating and improving their public spaces to make their community more vibrant? How do we activate communities with low social capital? How do we re-imagine a future that builds strong connected communities and supports their emotional, social, health and economic needs?

“(Re) Connecting Communities: A Festival of Place Leadership & Activation” promises bold, inspiring conversations on the big challenges and emerging issues for our communities; and positive solutions and strategies to create vibrant, sustainable and resilient places.

The Conference will attract community members and professionals from a diverse range of sectors and disciplines, including local and state governments, planning, placemaking, health, community development, economic development, NGOs, property developers, property managers, as well as existing and aspiring members of local town teams.

The 2 days will be jam packed with renowned speakers, workshops, round-table discussions, panel discussions and networking opportunities to generate thought-provoking conversations that traverse disciplines, as well as sessions that allow participants to dive into the detail of how to create positive change in their community.

THE TOWN TEAM MOVEMENTTown Team Movement (TTM) is a non-profit

organisation helping ‘Town Teams’ to organise, engage

and empower their communities and create better places.

Town Teams involve businesses, residents, landowners and local governments working collaboratively to improve their local area. They provide positive leadership, empower local communities and are catalysts for positive change.

Town Teams are a form of social capital the TTM is working to grow and share. We do this by working with and supporting communities and local governments, by creating and sharing resources and our collective experience.

It is a fast growing movement: already 21 Town Teams have been established. Over the next five years, we aim to support the creation of 100 local town teams across 100 suburbs and towns in WA and around Australia.

MARCUS WESTBURYFounder, Renew Newcastle

Marcus Westbury was the founder of the multi award winning Renew Newcastle and Renew Australia projects that have helped launch more than three hundred creative and community projects in empty and abandoned buildings and reopened more than a hundred vacant shops and offices across Australia.

Marcus’s background is as an urbanist, writer, media maker and festival director and the founder and manager of multiple arts events, community projects and social enterprises across Australia. He is the author of the crowd funded Amazon best selling book Creating Cities (Niche Press, 2015) and has been the writer and presenter of the ABC TV (Australia) series Bespoke and Not Quite Art.

PETER SHARPSocial Entrepreneur; Founder, Liberators International
