WEST DEPTFORD HIGH SCHOOL EAGLE NEWS – May 11, 2018 In a couple of weeks, all 11 th grade WDHS students will be taking the newly revised state science assessment – the NJSLA-S (New Jersey Students Learning Assessment for Science). In order to ensure optimal testing conditions for those students who will be testing on these two days, there will be a delayed opening for all other students who are NOT testing. On May 21 st and May 22 nd - All students enrolled in 11 th grade and who have been notified will be taking the NJSLA-S exam. Mon., May 21 st Tues., May 22 nd Unit 1 and Unit 2 7:30am start time Unit 3 and Unit 4 7:30am start time On the above testing dates, all 11 th grade students who are testing will report to school at their regularly scheduled start time (7:30am). It is imperative that all students assigned to testing are present each day, arrive on time, and leave their cell phones at home or place them in their lockers upon arrival. If your child has a cell phone on his/her person during the testing period, he/she will be removed from the test session and could risk the chance of having the test VOIDED. We are asking that you work with us to reinforce the importance of leaving the cell phone in the lockers as this is a state test of record requirement. We do not want to endanger anyone’s chances of having a test voided for this purpose. Thank you in advance for your assistance! Those students in classes who are not scheduled to take the NJSLA-S as outlined above will have a delayed arrival to school on these testing days. A second run of buses will pick up these students at their usual bus stops and bring them to school. Bus drivers will announce to the students the time they should be at their bus stops for these days. A general rule of thumb, however, is if students are usually at their bus stop thirty minutes before the start of a regular school day, they should also report to their bus stop thirty minutes prior to the start of the delayed school day. For example, those students who arrive at their bus stop by 7:00am for a 7:30am start on a regularly scheduled school day should arrive at the bus stop by 9:45am for a 10:15am start on the delayed school day. Students who drive to school should report by 10:15am each day. On May 21 st and May 22 nd ALL non-testing 9 th – 10 th grade students - Report directly to the high school gymnasium upon arrival at 10:15am. - Students who do not report on time will be marked late to school and could serve subsequent disciplinary consequences. ALL non-testing 12 th grade students - Report directly to the high school auditorium upon arrival at 10:15am. - Students who do not report on time will be marked late to school and could serve subsequent disciplinary consequences. Once testing is completed each day, ALL students will report to their HR for attendance and then Periods 4-7 (lunch periods). Each testing day will conclude with an additional period (May 21 st – period 1; May 22 nd – period 3). Periods 2 and 8 will not be seen on either of these testing dates. These details will be disseminated to the students by their classroom teachers the week prior to testing AND will be displayed in HR each day. I would be happy to clarify/answer any questions you may have about our testing procedures and schedule. If you should have any questions, please contact me. Sincerely, Mrs. Kelly A. The National Art Honor Society would like to take this time to congratulate all who participated in the WDHS

SADD (STUDENTS AGAINST DESTRUCTIVE DECISIONS) NEWS:

In preparation for our annual prom, WDHS’ SADD club is taking precautions to ensure the Class of 2018 make wise and smart decisions this weekend.  With the cooperation of the West Deptford Police Department, we conducted a mock DUI stop to send a hard‐hitting reminder to students of the dangers and consequences of unsafe driving behaviors, such as drinking and driving, driving while distracted, driving at dangerous speeds, and not buckling up. Representatives  from Southwest Council and Humble Beginnings were also on hand to make presentations on the topics of making good healthy life choices regarding substance abuse and drinking and driving.

MUSIC DEPARTMENT FUNDRAISERS:  Come out and support our WDHS Marching Band at Cinder Bar from Sunday, May 13th through Thursday, May 17th and a chunk of the proceeds will be donated back to the Marching  Band Parent Association.
