When Werner Wenzel started manufacturing precision tools in 1968,he would never have thought that 40 years later the company wouldbe a global player in the world of coordinate metrology.

Since May 2008 the WENZELGroup has been represented inIndia with a new sales and servicelocation. With the foundation ofWENZEL South Asia (P) Ltd. inNew-Delhi WENZEL enforces itsbusiness activities in south andsouth-east Asia. this year WENZEL willcelebrate its 40th anniversary.This is a reason to celebrateand a reason to be proud ofthe company's history overthe last four decades.Today over 500 peopleworldwide stand behindWENZEL.
They all give their very bestevery day and have madeWENZEL the biggest family-owned company in thisindustry with more than 5500coordinate measuringmachines sold.
Since the introduction of the firstse l f -deve loped Coord ina teMeasuring Machine (CMM) in1980, WENZELhas delivered over5500 CMMs worldwide to theautomotive and aerospaceindustry, engineering and elec-trical industry as well as to theirsuppliers.
The WENZEL Group has growncontinuously. Besides WENZELMetromec in Chur / Switzerland(measur ing sof tware) andWENZEL GearTec in Karlsruhe(gear metrology), the WENZELGroup now maintains assemblyfacilities in the USA and China aswell as sales offices all around theglobe. Since 2007 the Group hasacquired its own stone companyfor machining granite, the primeCMM building material.

WENZEL's “Scan & Go” is theperfect solution for collecting andprocessing point clouds. It isperfect for tool and die making,design and everyone who collectsand processes surfaces andoutlines of physical objects.
The concept of the solution isbased on two versions: Aneconomically priced completesolution named “Scan & Go”
including a coordinate measuringmachine (CMM), a scanner andsoftware along with a retrofitpackage for upgrading existing
WENZEL CMMs or other machinetypes. 3D-CMMs of the WENZELseries Smart, XOrbit or LH whichare equipped with a RenishawPH6M measuring head or aPH10M motorised probe head canbe upgraded with the sensor“Shapetracer”. This combination isthe perfect solution for collectionand processing point clouds.
With the Shapetracer, which caneasily be installed by the Multiwire-Adapter from Renishaw, surfacescan be scanned with a scan-speedof up to 48.000 points per second
and with an accuracy of ±20 µm. TheWENZEL Shapetracer is driven bythe software package “Pointmaster”.
The WENZEL-Pointmaster V4Software offers several featureswhich makes it easy to use even byless experienced users.
Today computer programs have toshow more and more performance.Many features are difficult to befound by the user. Therefore, thefocus of the new software MetrosoftQUARTIS is to be simple and user-friendly. With Metrosoft QUARTISWENZEL Metromec has launched anew generation of measuringsoftware. Metrosoft QUARTIS is thefirst measuring software using theinnovat ive Microsoft® Off ice
Fluent™ user interface, which isconsidered to be very clearlyarranged, flexible and goal-oriented. The result is a highlyinnovative operation concept,which enables all users easy andfast access to WENZEL Metro-mec's decade-long wealth ofexperience. The delivery ofQUARTIS will start in January2009.
WENZEL has launched an opticalmeasuring system for inspectingcomponents directly during theproduction process. The combi-nation of an optical measuringsystem with the well-provenmeasuring software Metrosoft CMenables the close inspection ofparts directly at the flow process.
Essential is the individual adaptionto the general set-up on-site. Dueto the use of an intelligent camerasystem, parts are checked withincycle time of the flow process. Themeasuring results are immediatelytransferred to the process
controller. The online correctioneffects automatically via definedinterfaces in real-time.
The data transfer to the differentinterfaces uses standardizedformats thus the interaction withCAQ-Systems and the logisticcontrol is fully integrated.

The experts agreed that the DesignMeeting 2008 in Wiesthal was acomplete success.WENZEL Präzision GmbH invited tothe international Design Meeting on10th and 11th of April 2008 twenty-five modellers and designers fromhigh profile companies such as Audi,BMW, FORM3 DESIGNSTUDIOS, GMEDesign, Kia, Mazda, Opel, Skoda andVW. All were very interested in thenumerous technical speeches anddemonstrations.
The technological highlight was a newinnovative development from
WENZEL: The new WENZEL 2-axes-m i l l i ng -head fo r p rocess i ngcomponents on 3D-coordinate-measuring-machines. It is the latestdevelopment of a 2-axes-milling-headfor design components, normallyproduced from heavy duty clay-mills,now directly inside the studioenvironment. Milling programmes canbe generated based on captured datafrom the measuring machine orexternal CAD / CAM data. Machiningprocesses can be done directly on themeasuring machine for optimisingparts especially with free formsurfaces.
All software functions are provided bythe design package DesCAD3D.DesCAD3D is a powerful tool formodellers and designers.
At the cross-company event the visitorsexchanged their experiences and ideasin the fields of design hardware andmodern application concepts. Thevisitors also took the opportunity fordiscussions with our experts in a relaxedatmosphere.
A special thank was given to HeinrichFest for the presentation of the designprocess at Volkswagen as well as toMichael Killer and Dominique Bauer fortheir field report with the WENZEL 2-axes-milling-head at Audi. Also thelectures from James Howell, former chiefmodeller from Mazda, on the subject ofmilling with off-line programmes andmilling of 1:4 models as well as thefollowing assessment of the millingmodel have to be pointed out.
Following the success of this event weare looking forward to the next designmeeting.
CONTROL, the premier internationaltrade fair for quality assurance tookplace from 22nd to 25th April 2008.This year the fair was at the new andvery modern 'Landesmesse Stuttgart'for the first time. WENZEL was, ofcourse among the 902 exhibitors.
Following the slogan of the fair:„Success through Quality” WENZELshowed its wide product range to the25,000 professional visitors from 40countries.This year's highlight was presented byWENZEL Metromec AG, Switzerland.Control was chosen for the official
world premier of the new measuringsoftware generation MetrosoftQUARTIS (see article page 2). Thehigh level of integration of the I++DME interface into Metrosoft CM wasimpressively demonstrated on theRenishaw stand.
There, the new and high capacityprobe head REVO was operated withMetrosoft CM via the I++ DMEinterface on a WENZEL CMM Type LH108. Metrosoft CM from WenzelMetromec is the leading measuringsoftware in the support of the futureoriented sensor system REVO from
Renishaw. The WENZEL SoftwareMetrosoft CM 3.80 can be used as I++DME Server as well as Client.
The unprecedented visitor levels showedthat the new design of the exhibitionstand and the extension to over 300square meters was well received by thevisitors. Compared to Control in 2007 thenumber of contacts increasedconsiderably. Some orders were evendirectly placed at the fair.
WENZEL has shipped the largestcoordinate measuring machine in itsforty years old history. The CMM, typeLHF 3020 with a measuring range of3000 mm x 10000 mm x 2000 mm isfeatured by an excellent access andhighest free moving speed.
The 10-metre CMM was delivered to oneof the worlds leading aircraftmanufacturers and is another importantreference for WENZEL in the aerospaceindustry.The LHF CMM is also very popular forpower train applications which areincreasingly faced with the problem ofmeasuring complex prismatic units with
free formed surfaces and big gears.Until now two machines were neededfor these tasks. With the WENZEL LHFCMM tasks like this are easy toaccomplish by measuring andanalyzing on one measuring machine.
The dual drive Y-axis makes themachine unbeatable in terms ofaccuracy, combined with the uniquestability of the guideways. Guidewaysand traverses are made from darkgranite.
