World Studies Units This 10 Unit course explores world history

To be successful Arrive on time and be in your seat when

the bell rings. Bring your notebook, Chromebook, pen

or pencil each day. Participate in class discussions by

raising your hand. Turn your cell phones off and put them

away. Be nice and work hard.

Consequences If you don’t follow the simple rules I will:

Give you a warning. Hold a detention. Call your parents Send you to the office.

Absences If you have an excused absence, you

have as many days to make up missed work as days you missed class.

If you need help, just ask, and I’ll be glad to find time at lunch or after school to help you.

Shipwrecked Imagine you were shipwrecked on an

island with ten people including a: scientist, teacher, carpenter, housewife (mother), clergymen, politician, artist, teenage student, policeman (with gun) and a ten year old.

Look at the list of people above and answer the following questions 1-7 using full sentences.

Shipwrecked discussion What two rights should each person have? What responsibilities should each person

have? Would you choose a leader? Who might make the best leader? Would you vote or use consensus? What should be the consequences if someone

breaks a law? Should the 10 year old receive the same

punishment as the adult?

Terms Democracy = rule by the people Monarchy = rule by king or queen Dictatorship = rule by a single powerful

person or group Republic = a representative democracy Constitution = a written set of laws

Branches of Government The executive branch includes the

President, who carries out the laws The judicial branch includes the

courts, which interpret the laws. The legislative branch includes the

Congress, which makes the laws.

The First Democracies Greece had the first democratic

government. Rome had the first republic or

representative democracy.

Student mobile devices or Chromebooks (page 4) Bring your Chromebooks each day, fully

charged. Bring headphones, too, for classroom

activities that use sound. We will use Chromebooks to search

websites, write, and design presentations.

need to get a perfect score. Then label your map with the names of all the continents and map.
