ENGLISHDIRECTOR OF ENGLISH – MRS EARPSHEAD OF ENGLISH: MRS TRAVERSE
The subject of English allows your child to develop holistically. No matter their ability, your child will experience a variety of texts: revisiting texts from their past to explore authorial intent, engaging with literary canon, exploring fiction and non-fiction. Through their exploration of texts your child will develop acceptance of cultures and differences, empathy and develop their own justifiable opinions. Furthermore, they will develop the key skills needed for the real world: reading for a variety of purposes (e.g. understanding, inference), accurate writing, choosing the correct tone and formality for different audiences, and oracy. English staff are committed to allowing students to explore their own opinions and question that of others in an appropriate way in order to develop their sense of self.

Studying Science at The Prescot School is about developing your knowledge of scientific
phenomena and developing your scientific investigative skills. This is done over units of
Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
In The Prescot School Mathematics Department we teach pupils for understanding, providing them with the time and support to secure understanding and gain confidence in many mathematical areas. We help build pupil confidence in the subject in a supporting and challenging way so they have the self belief to succeed mathematical. Studying maths helps your child master the maths skills essential for life beyond the classroom and sets them up with the skills that will help them flourish in their chosen career. Skills such as problem solving, analysing data, communication, logical thinking and attention to detail. Throughout their time in school your child will have the opportunity to develop many of these skills along with independence, resilience and mathematical curiosity.
