We would like to warmly welcome you to the Mulyo Room and trust that you receive the

care and education for your child which provides them with a strong foundation as a

lifelong learner and in preparation for Preschool. Whether your child is new to the centre

or transitioning from the Ngarto Room they will be teamed up with a Primary Carer.

Role of the Primary Carer / Educator — A Primary Carer/Educator is allocated to each

child and their role is to be the safe base for the child and to support them in develop-

ing relationships with others. They are also responsible for supporting your child’s

developmental learning journey and to ensure that they are supporting them to

achieve the best learning outcomes possible. They set goals for your child and

consistently write stories about your child to document their learning journey.

How do we document children’s learning?

Individual stories written about your child

Groups stories which reflect the culture of the room/centre

Photographs and art work

Parent feedback– to strengthen our professional development

Information about the room and centre which actively supports their experience

In our Events book - in the foyer

Our individual project and or group projects

In our Art portfolio - in the foyer

Room evaluation and Learning Story portfolios

Around the room as a living and working piece

Individual evaluations of their developmental progress in their Learning Story portfo-

lios

Family feedback is an essential part in supporting our own professional development

and also demonstrates the link between home and the Mulyo room and can be used as

evidence of this.

We encourage you to participate and support your child's learning journey through

sharing their stories with family, reading the stories with them, supporting their discussions

around what they have discovered or learning about in the Mulyo Room and asking

them to show you what they have done during the day at pick up.

We believe children to be powerful and competent individuals and community mem-

bers when given every and any opportunity to succeed at their own pace and devel-

opmental level.

Getting to know the Mulyo Room

Important things to remember...

When you sign your child into the room please write down what time and who will be picking

them up. Children ask during the day when their parents will be picking them up and if we are

armed with the right information we can share this with your child in a way which supports

them.

Support your child to sign in and out of the Mulyo Room by collecting their Apple from their col-

oured tree (name label) and to collect their hat from the hat basket (under the frogs) everyday

they attend. We put these steps in place to help with literacy and recognition of name as well

as preparing children for preschool. It also provides consistent rituals to support children and

families when they arrive and leave from care. Please support your child by encouraging them

to find their apple (name) and place into the room as well putting their drink bottle into the box

at the kitchen counter. They may need some help to hang their bag on the hooks outside, but

it great if they can choose which space to place it as it supports their self identity.

Other things to bring: please bring in a named water bottle everyday they attend the Mulyo

room, any comforters - like dummies, teddies, taggies/sleep blankets, and sleeping bags. They

also need to bring in a bag with spare clothes (for accidents) or if they get messy. They also

need to bring in at least 5 nappies for the day and at least 4-5 changes of clothes if they are

new at toileting.

Daily information is usually shared verbally by your child’s primary carer but can also be given

by other educators in the room. If your child’s primary carer has left for the day, please do not

hesitate in asking another educator in the room. We also document ‘What we did in the Mulyo

Room’ in a book near the sign in sheet of all the fun experiences that we have offered during

the day. Sleep times can also be found above the sign in area.

An evaluation of what we have been doing in our room is placed up on the wall in the front

foyer once a month and can also be accessed on the website along with other current photos

and stories.

Medication - can be administered by Educators. It must be accompanied with a Medical

Authority from your child’s prescribed doctor [and labelled with a pharmaceutical label]. It

must be in the original container, in the dose required for the day in care. A Medication Day

sheet must be completed stating the time and dosage. On administration, an Educator will sign

each time the medication is given. Please inform Educators of your child’s medical needs on

the day and let us know if your child has been medicated at home prior to attending care or if

they have recently been immunized. This assists Educators to monitor their wellbeing. Please

note: If your child is unable to participate in the program offered, we will contact you to come

a collect them. Action Plans: If your child is needing long term medication eg. Ventolin, Epipens

or medication for epilepsy, this medication will need to bought in daily and placed in the

“allergy buddy” (kept in the store room). A current Action plan must be provided to the Mulyo

Room educators.

Sun Cream — We supply 50+ Cancer council sunscreen which is suitable for young children and

applied once a day. If your child requires their own sun cream it must be clearly named with a

pharmaceutical label. It would need to bought in each day and placed in the “allergy buddy”

Accident — accidents are reported using an accident form. You will be notified immediately if

needed. At pick up we ask that you sign the accident report to ensure you have been notified.

Please inform Educators if your child has any pre-existing bodily marks/injuries on arrival.

What is Early Years Learning Framework

(EYLF) - It is Australia's first National Early

Childhood Curriculum Framework and

is used in all preschool services from

birth to six years. It documents principles,

practice and outcomes for young

children's learning, from the time they

are born until they go to school.

Through the Framework Educators will assist

your child to develop:

A strong sense of identity

Connection with their world

A strong sense of wellbeing

Confidence and involvement in their

learning

Effective communication skills

Page 6: Welcome to the Mulyo Room - BCCCC...Your child's Primary Carer is: Welcome to the Mulyo Room Mulyo is the Kaurna word meaning Feelings, Attach-ment and LOVE! 2 years - 3½ year olds

The Mulyo Room program that is offered

is filled with richness, variety and diversity.

The reason for this is that we have a

diverse range of educators who bring in

various levels of experience, knowledge

and dedication.

The educators that work in the Mulyo

Room whether they are permanent or

relief are very passionate about

contributing to the program from being

involved in the day to day routines,

planning and providing the daily

activities, to evaluating the monthly

goals and experiences as well as

programming for individual learning

through learning and group stories.

Each educator is involved in some

capacity and this is highly encouraged

as it also promotes their personal

professional development.

We also have to celebrate that we have

such an eclectic group of children and

families that represent our room as well

as the centre and value and appreciate

any new ideas, thoughts and

contributions shared and added to our

program. I really value this about our

room as it is not only the foundation of

the culture of the Mulyo room but this

represents our Centre’s Mission

Statement as follows:

“Blackwood Community Child Care

Centre is a safe and dynamic

environment where Children, Parents

and Staff can learn, play, grow and

be healthy, happy and thrive” .

We value Diversity, Inclusiveness,

Respect, Integrity and

Relationships.”

One of the amazing things that

continues to be evident as I continue my

personal professional development is

that there are many different ways that

we develop and learn. This is evident in

the way our children learn too. For this

reason I have discovered that one of the

most useful tools is to use lots of different

ways to demonstrate, role model and

teach children.

For me this is critical as children love to

watch what we do, mimic what say and

do, but most importantly they love to be

involved. This is important as we teach,

learn and discover together.

I think that this Chinese Proverb really

says it all:

‘Tell me and I’ll forget; show me

and I may remember; involve me

and I’ll understand.’

Transition feedback form

Child’s name ......................

Transitioning from the Ngarto room to the Mulyo room, or transitioning into care from the

outside the centre, can be challenging for some children and families. It is our aim to make

the transition as easy and welcoming as possible.

Our staff are dedicated to providing a high level of care, as educators and primary carers of

your child/children.

To help staff in their supportive role, we would appreciate your feedback about how the

transition went for you and your child/children.

1. Did you feel you had enough information about the transition process and how your

child would be supported in the room?

2. Is there any other support you would like from your child’s primary carer?

3. Any other suggestions?

Thank you for your feed back
