Welcome

Welcome to the 8th annual Governor’s Summit on Workforce Solutions. This year’s theme, “Explore, Engage, Energize” reflects not only the reality of today’s economy, but also the optimism of Wyoming’s business community.

As you listen to this year’s speakers and attend the variety of workshops, you’ll receive timely tips and suggestions on helping your organization survive and thrive during these challenging times. You’ll, no doubt, notice a prevailing spirit that mirrors Wyoming’s history of perseverance and resourcefulness.

Key duties of the Wyoming Workforce Development Council include developing a comprehensive and coordinated workforce development system for our state, as well as strengthening collaboration among education and training institutions, economic development programs and businesses. This Summit is an integral part of that responsibility. Our goal for the Summit is that you learn innovative ways to improve the competitiveness of your business and have opportunities to network and share successful business concepts with fellow participants.

Wyoming is still a state where people come together, roll up their sleeves and figure out how to tackle any challenges that come our way. We hope this Summit provides a springboard for you and your business, and we look

forward to meeting you over the next two days.

Featured Speakers

Eric Chester

In a perfect world, business leaders would employ a workforce that’s engaged, enthused and ethically unassailable. The reality, of course, is that the new emerging workforce is streetwise and techno-savvy, but they’ve not been taught how to succeed in the workplace, at home or at school.

Our featured speaker is a bestselling author and frequent contributor for Good Morning America and Fox News. Eric is known by millions as the premier expert on Reviving Today’s Work Ethic and Bringing Your A Game to Work, and is the leading authority on the current multi-generational workforce. His presentation will illustrate why the work ethic in America has declined, and he’ll provide solid, actionable ideas and tools for developing the right worker and restoring the pride of a job well done.

Jack Smalley

America’s employment analysts are predicting up to 40 percent turnover 2011 after the recession ends and unemployment rates begin to fall. Many of the younger Gen X’ers and most Millenials reached new lows in morale during their first recession. Couple this with the pending mass exodus of up to 60 million boomers desire to retire and we have a potential employment

tsunami.

Jack will discuss each of the six most dangerous retention mistakes and guide you through the successful resolution of each to improve your company’s brand as an outstanding employer of choice.

Colonel Mark Trostel

Mark serves as the National Driving Safety Advisor for Encana Oil & Gas, USA, an exploration and production company headquartered in Denver, Colorado and Calgary, Alberta, Canada with significant operations in Wyoming and many other states. Encana operates as a leader in the Oil & Gas Industry to create a culture of innovative, responsible resource

extraction combined with the highest worker safety and environmental standards achievable.

Ensuring the safety, health and welfare of workers embodies many challenges, but none as great as those faced by leaders, managers and workers in today’s driving environment. This presentation addresses the facts and figures of those challenges and provides guidance in developing a successful safety program and company culture to enhance safety and reduce worker and company exposure in driving. An industry case study with program development and implementation will be examined to aid in the creation of a safer driving environment for all.
