Welcome to the 2015-2016

school year!!!We are going to start by setting up your computer for easy access to some very important websites.

You will be checking these sites each day when you arrive at your advisory

classroom.

1. Log in to your SCHOOL EMAIL– Example: 16.turner.k@asd5.org

2. Leave that there and open a new tab by clicking on the little box next to your email tab

3. In the new tab go to: Aberdeen High SchoolWebsite and click on the Family Connectionlink

Here is the important part!

Click on the little GEAR in the right hand corner.

Then select INTERNET OPTIONS.

Click on USE CURRENTIt will not look exactly the same as mine!

Then click on APPLY

Each time you log in to the internet these two sites will pop up automaticallyso that it will be easy for you to check them.

YOU ARE DONE FOR TODAY!!!

Get on the internet and click on the FAMILY CONNECTION tab that should automatically appear.

Family Connection is a site where you can complete a variety of activities. These activities include tasks about school events, such as, Career Day, college searches, career searches, surveys and so much more. All of your work is stored and you can return to it later. Today we are just going to explore a little bit.

ABOUT ME TABHere you can--Take a quiz to find a career or tofind your strengths-See information you have saved, like your favorite colleges or careers-Build a resume-Write in a private journal-View surveys and tasks you have completed

MY PLANNER TABHere you can--View all the goals you have madethroughout high school and make new ones-Make To-Do lists for yourself-See all the tasks that are assigned to you and that you have to complete for your advisory class

ROAD TRIP NATIONRoad Trip Nation is a library of over 3,500 videos made by interviewing leaders of the nation about their struggles, triumphs and self discovery.

You can find a link to Road Trip Nation under the CAREERS tab. Scroll to the bottom.

Take some time now to look through the interviews and explore a little bit.

If you go out of Road Trip Nation, do not take any of the quizzes. Some of them can only be done once.

Assignment #1 – Goal Setting Each year you will set 3 goals: personal goal, attendance goal and academic goal.All of your goals will be in the SMART goal format. This task will not show as complete until all areas have been done.

Let’s review what a SMART goal is:Specific goals are much easier to accomplish than general goals. Measurable – Goals need to be measurable so that you know when you have succeeded. Achievable – Goals must be challenging but realistic.Relevant – It has to mean something to you.Timely – You need a start date and an end date.

Everybody log in to Family Connection and let’s get started!• Under the MY PLANNER tab click on the link that

says Tasks Assigned To Me.• You will see that the first three tasks are your

goals.• Click on the task to begin and follow the steps. • There are some questions provided to help direct

you in setting your goal. • Repeat for the other 2 goals.
