Prayer Before Mass

Come Holy Spirit and quiet my heart and my head, as I gather with my friends and neighbors to celebrate Mass. I am saint and sinner. Open my ears to Your words. Open my mouth in prayer and song. Open my eyes

to see Your mystery in symbol and sign. Open my heart in love for You and my neighbor. Quiet the thoughts and dis-trac ons that will keep me from prayer. Strengthen me to take the Mass into my life this week. Amen.

Can You Give Someone a Ride to Church?

Several parishioners would like to a end Mass but are unable to drive themselves due to health issues. Commitments can vary from weekly to monthly. If you are interested in helping, please contact Deacon Leon at 636-221-1531 or the Parish Office at 239-6701.

Grace and peace to you! Fr. Joe asked me to write a column in his stead as he took some much deserved RnR this past week. I’ve heard it can be resome adjus ng to a

new Associate Pastor. One of the most frequent ques ons I’ve been asked these past couple of weeks is, “So, are you adjus ng to Washing-ton?” The first to ask was JoAnn at the chiropractor’s office… I thought it was a pun. Truly, though, it has been a joy to be so warmly welcomed into the Washington and the St. Francis Borgia community; I’m grateful for how so many of you have gone out of your way to say ‘hi’ or have sacrificed me and energy to making the tran-si on easier. Even the ‘sinners’ table at Cowan’s breakfast bought me a cup of coffee. I had to tell them, though, that you can’t buy your way into heaven. Though I s ll have a few boxes to unpack, it’s been good to roll up the sleeves and get to work in the Lord’s Vineyard. Offering Mass, hearing confessions, assis ng at the school, welcoming back the PSR families, visi ng the hospital and sen-ior living communi es, going to Borgia football games, as-sis ng those seeking the Lord’s aid and will in their lives… just the p of the iceberg. But therein lies joy, for there is the encounter with Jesus. He calls us to live that self-giving love that He Himself lived most radiantly. And as I see so many of you do so – everyone from the youth to the elderly, the volunteers to the paid staff, and in everything and every way we live out the mission of Jesus – there I see Jesus present and at work amidst us. As we con nue forward as disciples of Jesus Christ in our daily lives, let’s remember to be inten onal about praying for one another every day. I leave you with a quote from St. Mother Teresa (her feast day was Sept. 5th), which she put on her ‘business card’ with great delight.

The fruit of silence is prayer, the fruit of prayer is faith,

the fruit of faith is love, the fruit of love is service,

the fruit of service is peace.

Gratefully in Christ, Father Buehler, Associate Pastor

Stewardship Reflection “You, son of man, I have appointed watchman for

the house of Israel.” - EZEKIEL 33:7 Many of us are generous with our gi s. However, how o en is our generosity at the minimum level required? We do just enough or give just enough. Remember, the Lord calls us to be generous with all the gi s He has given us, to grow them and return them with increase.

Reflec on - GOD'S WATCHERS In the ancient world watchmen were extremely important people. They kept communi es safe, and were there to alert them to any impending danger or a ack. Before locks, alarms, and security systems, watchmen were the protectors, the safety measure. So when the Lord charges Ezekiel as a watch-man today, it is a weighty charge. So weighty, we learn, that if Ezekiel fails to sound the alarm for those around him and they perish in a state of wickedness, Ezekiel will be held responsi-ble! This profound connec on between God's will on earth and in heaven is repeated in today's Gospel, where Jesus in-structs us that we are to be the security force, the watchers placed on alert that nowhere in the Body of Christ, the church, will there be any two members of the one Body who are not reconciled. Scripture tells us that Jesus reconciled all things in heaven and on earth through the blood of his cross. But we are given the mission to con nue that reconcilia on on earth as in heaven through our ceaseless efforts to be, as Paul would write, ambassadors of reconcilia on. Let us not get too com-fortable thinking that we are responsible only for keeping our own lives from the path of wickedness and disagreement. We are also held accountable for the lives of the members of Christ's body around us.
