• Your child is required to learn a list of 43 sight words by the end of kindergarten.

• These words can be found in the homework section of your child’s Binder.

• Learning letter sounds and sight words will help your child learn to read.

• By the end of kindergarten, your child must be reading fluently on a Level D.

Report Cards• Report Cards are sent home at the end of each

9 week grading period. (4 report cards per year)• Each 9 weeks, the children will only be assessed

on the skills that were taught during that particular grading period.

• Kindergarten report card grades include S, P, and N:– S Demonstrates a satisfactory level of proficiency for all

subskills taught in that standard for the nine week period.– P Student exhibits partial proficiency in the standard. Student

meets some, but not all, benchmarks for the nine week period. – N Student does not demonstrate proficiency with majority of

subskills taught in that standard for the nine week period.

Global ScholarReading Foundations assessment

• Computer-based, adaptive assessment– As questions are answered correctly, more challenging content

is presented. As questions are answered wrong, less challenging content is presented.

• This is a formative assessment – not a grade

• Used for instructional purposes – Teachers know which students have mastered which standards

• Individual learning paths can be generated on Compass Learning/Odyssey– This allows students to work at their own ability level, whether

they need remediation or enrichment
