Our Class CommunityThis year, we are lucky enough to have the following Teacher Assistants who have begun to build a great rapport with the students:

MORNING ROUTINE•Our class meets in the Cafeteria/All Purpose Room each day and we walk together as a class to Room 118.

•When we enter the classroom, we enter QUIETLY and we UNPACK at the back table.

•The students take out their FOLDERS and COMMUNICATION NOTEBOOKS and put them into the bins. They put their LUNCHES into the black CRATE and their SNACKS go on the WINDOWSILL. •Then, they hang their coats and backpacks NEATLY by their assigned hooks.

MORNING ROUTINE CONT.• The morning work will be on their desks. Next, they will

begin their MORNING WORK.

• When everyone is unpacked, they ALL work on their MORNING WORK QUIETLY.

• When they FINISH their morning work, they have the opportunity to EARN for 5 minutes (i.e., puzzles, computers, toys, games, drawing, etc.)

MARBLE SYSTEM• Class Reward System

If the students in our class do great work, try hard everyday, earn compliments from other teachers for walking quietly in the hallway, and always listen to the adults in the room, they earn marbles for the class.• When the marble jar is filled with 10 marbles, the class

earns stickers! • When the marble jar is filled with 15 marbles, the class

earns prizes from the prize box! • When the marble jar is filled with 20 marbles, the class

earns a class party!

BASKETBALL BEHAVIOR• In Bounds• Students have great behavior. Students

earn a prize at the end of the day. • Fouls• Students may get one foul for each poor

behavior choice. • If they get more than four fouls, they are

benched. • Benched• Students who are benched at the end of

the day do not earn a prize for the day.

Green, Yellow, RedOur class uses the stop light to help us try to use good behavior. Green = Stay On Green! Make Good Choices! Yellow = Warning! Make Better Choices! :/ Red = Phone Call Home. Let’s Talk About It!

Classroom JobsLights: Turn on/off lights whenever asked. Paper Passer: Hand out papers when asked. Messenger: Deliver messages and mail to students’ mailboxes. Line Leader: Leads the class line. Door: Opens/Closes door when asked. Supplies: Hands out supplies/helps clean up when asked.

HomeworkMath/Reading homework will be assigned Monday – Thursday each week (unless otherwise specified)Students will receive weekly spelling words and spelling tests will be given on Fridays. Science/Social Studies Projects may also be assigned over longer periods of time (i.e. Research Projects)

What Parents/Guardians Can Do

Read to your child for at least 10 minutes each night.Practice sight words with your child.Help your child with his homework.Continue home-school correspondence.Encourage your child!

Tests/QuizzesTests will be announced at least 4-5 days before the scheduled testQuizzes will be announced at least 2-3 days before the scheduled quizReview sheets will be created as necessary

Friday FoldersCompleted work will be sent home once a week in a separate “Friday Folder.” All graded tests will be sent home in this folder. Please review all work. Sign and return the tests and keep all other completed work at home. The folder should be signed and returned to school on Mondays.

LunchThe children may purchase hot lunch in the cafeteria each day.A new menu will be sent home at the beginning of each month.Please send your child’s lunch money in a small container or envelope that is labeled with his name.

Healthy SnackOur class has lunch/recess at 12:00PM, so we

will usually be having snack in the morning.

Please send in a healthy snack for your child to enjoy during this time.

**Snack may sometimes be a working snack. ** We are a PEANUT FREE CLASS AND

SCHOOL. Please be mindful of this when sending in your child’s snack.

TransportationIf there are changes in your child’s transportation after school, please write a note so we can have it on file. If someone new will be taking your child home from school, a written note must be sent to school. If your child will not be taking the bus as usual, a note must be sent.
