School Literacy
Campaign

Purpose: To create and nurture the
love of reading in each of our students!

• When should your child use Lexia?
Purpose: To meet individual student needs and build computer skills.
READ, READ, READ…..and talk about what you read!
Running Records
•What are Running Records?
•How are they used?
•What is expected of your child?
•How can you help your child improve in reading?
In Class-Reading Lessons
• Weekly Focus on Age-Appropriate Comprehension Skills and Strategies
• Grammar, Spelling and Vocabulary to build literacy
• Novel Studies– Expose students to age
appropriate literature– Model critical thinking as
well as the application of skills and strategies
At Home Support
• Retell- Ask your child to retell a each chapter or story they read. Have students give as much detail as possible in their summaries.
• Ask questions about the story, such as: Who are the characters? What is the problem in the story?
• Require your child to read daily.
• If you have internet access at home, require your child to complete at least 20 minutes a week on Lexia.
• Provide incentives for each time your child reads a book and gives a through summary of what they read
• Let your child “catch” you reading!
