What Is Health & Physical Education?• Physical activity is any body movement that works your

muscles and requires more energy than resting. Walking, running, dancing, swimming, yoga, and gardening are a few examples of physical activity.

• The goal of PE at OLGC is to set the foundation to beginning and continuing to live a active lifestyle.

• Health education builds students' knowledge, skills, and positive attitudes about health. Health education teaches about physical, mental, emotional and social health. It motivates students to improve and maintain their health, prevent disease, and reduce risky behaviors.

• The goal of HE at OLGC is to help students learn skills they will use to make healthy choices throughout their lifetime.

Warm Up

Why warm up?

Warming up may help prepare your body for aerobic activity. A warm up gradually revs up your cardiovascular system, increases blood flow to your muscles and raises your body temperature. Warming up may also help reduce muscle soreness and lessen your risk of injury.

Warm Up - Routine

Students will enter the gymnasium and begin walking around the cones. When the music begins playing, students will begin jogging/running until the music is turned off.

* Shoe laces should be tied tight, prior to the music being played!

Attendance

Following the Warm Up, students will go directly to their attendance spots a and take a seat. During this time, I will call out the name of each student.

• Only say "HERE" or "PRESENT" when "YOUR" name is called. Please don't answer for anyone else.

Lesson Outline

• Overview: The plan for the remainder of class.

• Lead Up Activity: Quick activity to practice a specific skill.

• Main Activity: Focus activity to practice a specific skill(s)

• Culminating Activity: Final activity to bring everything together.

StretchingFor Your Body

• Helps improve flexibility (increases your range of motion)

• Assists in correct posture by lengthening tight muscles that pull areas of the body away from their intended position (because you spend so much time at our desk, many of us have tight chest muscles which pulls the shoulders and head forward, leaving us with a hunched shoulder look)

• Potential to decrease injury by preparing muscles for work before activity

• Increases blood and nutrient supply to muscles, thereby possibly reducing muscle soreness

For Your Mind

• Even a short amount of time (10-15 minutes) of stretching can calm the mind, provide a mental break, and give your body a chance to recharge

• Classes like yoga or pilates offer you a chance to spend an hour releasing tension physically and mentally

Grades• Attire: Sneakers*, OLGC Approved Shirt and

Shoes.

• Participation: Try EVERYTHING!

• Behavior: Follow the teachers directions and all school rules.

• Homework: Complete all assigned work.
