AVID (Achievement Via Individual Determination)
Taught by Sarah Lovick~ she also runs our Link Crew summer orientation program for incoming 9th graders in August.
Geared toward:
• First generation college families (parents did not graduate from college)
• Students that struggle in school (D and C grades in school but want to improve!)
Highlights:
• Free field trips to visit colleges- can't want to attend a place you don’t understand! We get them on campus and excited to apply to colleges!
• NOT a homework help class- there is a curriculum for your student
• Laptops in classroom- access to grades every day
• Lexile Growth- reading comprehension with Achieve 3000

What Do We Do In AVID?
Achieve 3000 - to improve reading comprehension skills and will perform better on tests necessary for college acceptance!
• Keyboarding & Computer Skills- provides valuable life, school and work skills
• Organization skills- to help you succeed in high school and life. Binder & Backpack checks
• Study Skills & Test Prep- to help you not only pass high school but to excel on the PSAT, SAT and ACT. How to study, when to study, learning styles etc.
• Personality & Learning Style Assessments- important to know how you learn best and what you value in order to pick the right college and career!
• Resume Building- students build a professional resume that they can use to obtain a job!

What Do We Do In AVID?
• Money Management- students create a future budget, learn what the “real world” costs, use of AVID bank account in class
• College Research- time spent in class comparing and contrasting CSU, UC and Private colleges so that students can make informed decisions
• College Speakers- AVID students get to attend when we have guest college speakers on campus
• Career Speakers- we will have various career speakers come to tell you what their job is really like
• Career Research- Kids can’t prepare for a future if they don’t know what they want!
• College Field Trips: Fall (Sac State and UC Davis) Spring (SF State)

In addition to our core curriculum, we offer small learning communities in a specialized Academy format.
Arts Academy - Provides a creative avenue with intensive, in-depth training in their area of artistic interest. Current technology will be used as a tool to prepare students for entry into the professional world.
Digital Arts & Technology Academy - Composed of imaginative students who are dedicated to achieving both creatively and academically. Students focus on ranging fields of Graphic Design, Animation, Game Design, Coding and Web Design.
Engineering & Design - Provides an educational foundation in the areas of math and science enhanced by problem-solving and engineering applications.
Medical Careers Academy - Prepares students for biomedical careers providing the educational foundation, community mentorships, leadership training and hands on skills in the fields of biomedical sciences.
Public Service Academy - Structures around dedicated and collaborative teaching that emphasizes academic success by instituting a project-based service learning curriculum.

the school, CVCHS will hold a Public Random Drawing
(“Lottery”) on 2/5/18 at 7:00p.m.
▪ All names will be drawn and numbered to determine
enrollment offers and waitlist positions
▪ When a student is offered a spot they will receive a “letter
of intent” form which must be completed and submitted
within 5 days to secure enrollment
