Taught by Sarah Lovick~ she also runs our Link Crew summer orientation program for incoming 9th graders in August.

Geared toward:

• First generation college families (parents did not graduate from college)

• Students that struggle in school (D and C grades in school but want to improve!)

Highlights:

• Free field trips to visit colleges- can't want to attend a place you don’t understand! We get them on campus and excited to apply to colleges!

• NOT a homework help class- there is a curriculum for your student

• Laptops in classroom- access to grades every day

• Lexile Growth- reading comprehension with Achieve 3000

30

What Do We Do In AVID?

Achieve 3000 - to improve reading comprehension skills and will perform better on tests necessary for college acceptance!

• Keyboarding & Computer Skills- provides valuable life, school and work skills

• Organization skills- to help you succeed in high school and life. Binder & Backpack checks

• Study Skills & Test Prep- to help you not only pass high school but to excel on the PSAT, SAT and ACT. How to study, when to study, learning styles etc.

• Personality & Learning Style Assessments- important to know how you learn best and what you value in order to pick the right college and career!

• Resume Building- students build a professional resume that they can use to obtain a job!

31

What Do We Do In AVID?

• Money Management- students create a future budget, learn what the “real world” costs, use of AVID bank account in class

• College Research- time spent in class comparing and contrasting CSU, UC and Private colleges so that students can make informed decisions

• College Speakers- AVID students get to attend when we have guest college speakers on campus

• Career Speakers- we will have various career speakers come to tell you what their job is really like

• Career Research- Kids can’t prepare for a future if they don’t know what they want!

• College Field Trips: Fall (Sac State and UC Davis) Spring (SF State)
