PREPARE NOW TO SUCCEED IN COLLEGE
U.S. Department of Education study found that the strongest predictor of college graduation is something students do before they ever go to college:
Participate in rigorous, college-level courses in high school—and AP courses in particular.Clifford Adelman, Answers in the Tool Box: Academic Intensity, Attendance Patterns, and Bachelor’s Degree Attainment (1999), U.S. Department of Education.
WHAT IS AN
ADVANCED PLACEMENT COURSE?
• AP courses are designed and updated annually to reflect what is taught in cutting-edge college courses.
• AP curriculum for each class is the same for all schools around the US and Globe.
• Students receive an external evaluation—the AP Exam—which is scored by college faculty from around the world who verify that the student has mastered college-level studies.

Advanced Placement®
(AP®
) courses are
high school classes that reflect what a
student will experience in a college course.
Students take the AP Exam in May measuring
mastery of the subject’s content and skills.
Students who pass the AP Exam with at least a 3 on a 5 point scale may earn college
credit.
WHAT IS AN A.P. COURSE?THE BASICS
WHAT MAKES AP COURSES DIFFERENT?
AP courses demand A LOT from students:
They’re fast-paced and cover more material than a typical high school class.
More time, in & out of class, is required to complete rigorous assignments.
Teachers expect AP students to think deeply, listen critically, and write
thoughtfully at a collegiate level of performance.
HOW IS THE AP COURSE BENEFICIAL FOR YOUR CHILD?
1) AP is a challenge you’ll love!
They’re often the MOST interesting &
rigorous classes you’ll get in high school.
AP teachers are dedicated, well-trained, &
passionate about their subject & students.
Students develop perseverance, confidence,
and learn the essential skills for success in
college & beyond.
2) TAKING AP CLASSES IMPROVES YOUR COLLEGE
APPLICATION
“Grades in college prep courses” and “Strength of
curriculum” are the top 2 factors in admission
decisions.*
83% of selective colleges report that a student’s decision
to take AP classes favorably impacts admission
decisions.**

How is the AP course beneficial for your child?
3) AP classes improve chance of success in college
Students who take AP courses and exams are much more likely to:
complete a college degree on time.
A recent study showed students taking AP courses & exams were much more likely to earn a college degree in 4 years.*
earn financial aid, easing the college cost burden.
31% of colleges and universities consider a student’s AP experience when making decisions about which students will receive scholarships.**
Morton East graduate Miguel Coronel passed 20 AP
exams, earning a total of 69 college credits.
2,266 students in Morton AP classes
807 of them passed test (36%)
If a single class at UIC=$1,500, then
Morton’s AP program saved students
at least $1, 210, 500 in college
tuition in 2018 alone.
How is the AP course beneficial for your child?
4) AP can earn you college credit
College credit earned through
AP Exams allows students to:
move into upper-level
college courses sooner,
pursue a double major,
save time and money.
ALL OF THAT HARD WORK…
