ContentsWelcome to Science in the City 2019 at the Australian Museum

Welcome

“I know the sky is not the limit because there are footprints on the Moon — and I made some of them!” - Buzz Aldrin

The biggest celebration of science for schools and the community may have a new name this year but our enthusiasm and commitment for encouraging school students to explore the wonderful world of science is as strong as ever.

Now in our 18th year, Science in the City 2019 is part of the Sydney Science Festival and National Science Week, celebrating the innovations and achievements of the Australian science community.

As we reflect on 50 years since the first moon landing, what better time to inspire young people’s curiosity and stimulate their interest in the study of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) to push the limits and help shape a better future.

With the support and participation of many researchers and professionals from tertiary institutions, scientific organisations and industry sponsors, this year we are pleased to bring you a

diverse program of hands-on activities and presentations all designed to inspire and engage your students in STEM.

I would like to thank our Major Partner 3M Australia and Event Partner ANSTO; our Education Partners Macquarie University, University of Sydney, University of Technology Sydney, and University of New England. We are also grateful to our wonderful volunteers and the Science Engagement and Events team who have worked so hard to develop and deliver this comprehensive program for 2019.

Finally thank you to you – the teachers and students whose participation and enthusiasm are what brings all these amazing organisations and people together, sharing in a love of exploration, science and curiosity.

Kim McKay AO Executive Director & CEO Australian Museum
