Our ScheduleLowndes High School is on a 4x4 block schedule to offer
additional educational opportunities and choices for students.
• There are two semesters per school year.
• Each semester is 18 weeks long.• First semester: August
through December • Second semester:
January through May

Our Schedule•Students attend 4 classes
daily. Each class is approximately 90 minutes.
•Most students will have two academic classes and two
elective classes each semester.
• Thus, each school year students can earn 8 credits.
Students must earn 28 credits to graduate from LHS. The block schedule
affords additional opportunities to meet the
needs of all students.

Block Scheduling Reminders…
•With an 18-week (1 semester) course, students who get behind in their studies often have a “false security” that they still have time to pull it up in time to pass. •The grading period is cumulative for the semester. This is vastly different from the middle school 9-week grading period.

• Attendance is critical on the block schedule. When students are absent, they miss more material than on a traditional schedule.
Graduation RequirementsStudents must earn 28 Carnegie units to graduate from LHS
4 units of English4 units of Mathematics4 units of Science 4 units of Social Studies3 units (minimum) required from Foreign
Language* and/or CTAE and/or Fine Arts
8 additional electives (minimum)1 Health/personal fitness course (required)
*Students planning to enter or transfer into a University System of Georgia institution must take two units of the same foreign language.

End of Course Tests State mandated End of Course Tests (EOCT) are given to all students for the following courses. These exams will count for 20% of the student’s
final grade:

Graduation Requirements
In addition to earning 28 Carnegie units, students must also earn a passing score on the Georgia High School Graduation Writing Test (GHSGWT) to receive a regular diploma. GHSGWT is taken during the Junior year.

•Tutorials are held from 3:00 – 3:45 most days. •Individual teachers have individual tutorial schedules; the student should ask the teacher for an agreeable day and time for tutoring.
•The purpose of tutorial:• provide individualized reinforcement of skills, materials, or concepts covered in class•make up missed work or tests incurred from absences.
•The student should come to tutorial prepared with specific questions.

•Check your child’s progress in all classes frequently. Communicate with the teachers. Visit your child’s
teachers’ websites. These can be accessed through the Lowndes County Schools website: (
http://www.lowndes.k12.ga.us).
•Ask your child daily about his/her school day. Ask about class work, upcoming tests, and homework. If
necessary, ask to see completed homework.
•Enforce the keeping of the homework agenda, and check it daily until your child becomes accustomed to
recording assignments regularly.

• Arrange for after school tutoring when necessary.
• Keep in communication with teachers. Contact your child’s guidance counselor to schedule a parent, student,
teacher conference.
• Infinite Campus Parent Portal is an online connection that allows you to monitor your children’s educational progress. The portal will provide you access to current
information on attendance, schedule, and your children’s grades.
