EQAO (ASSESSMENT OF MATHEMATICS) – GR. 9 99% of all academic level students were successful

(88% of all students achieved level 3 or 4)

POST SECONDARY OFFERS 95% of graduates accepted to post secondary institutions

HONOURS• 304 students in grades 9, 10 and 11 received honours standing for

having an overall average of 80% or higher in all 8 courses• 145 students in grade 12 (1 in 3) received honours standing for

having an overall average of 80% or higher in all 6 courses • 118 students in grades 9, 10 and 11 received special subject

awards based on academic marks above 90%

GRADUATE AWARDS• Grade 12 graduates received the Ontario Principal’s Council

Award for Student Leadership, the Lieutenant Governor’s Community Volunteer Award, and the Governor General’s Award (with the highest academic average of 98.8% for 8 grade 12 courses – 2nd highest in Mississauga)

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT CONT.

Grade 9 students participated in the Pascal Waterloo Mathematics contest and received medal and certificate standing

Grade 10 students participated in the Cayley Waterloo Mathematics contest and received medal and certificate standing

Grade 11 students participated in the Fermat Waterloo Mathematics contest and received medal and certificate standing (placed 8th out of 38 schools)

Grade 11/12 students participated in the Canadian Senior Mathematics contest (placed 10th out of 27 schools)

Grade 12 students participated in the Euclid Mathematics contest . Multiple students were awarded Certificates of Distinction (placed 13th out of 50 schools)

A specialized program with support for students identified as Exceptional Communications – Autism

SPECIAL EDUCATION

A support program offered to students with special education needs. The main focus is: develop literacy and numeracy, provide access to technology which supports student learning, and allow time extensions for assessments and instructional accommodations

ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE

An accelerated English proficiency program that helps English language learners be more successful in school through the development of language and writing skills

COUNTING ON YOUAn afterschool program available to grade 9 and 10 students that helps to improve literacy and numeracy skills, and helps to prepare them for the OSSLT and the Grade Nine EQAO math assessment

PHYSICAL ACTIVITYStudents participate in a variety of physical activities both indoor and outdoor for a half period of class once a month with the aim of improving student achievement, readiness to learn, behavior, and self-esteem.Activities include soccer baseball, handball, scooter games, etc.

CLUBS & GROUPS

MISSISSAUGA STUDENT UNION (MSU)Student Council members are nominated or elected to positions. They provide leadership, address students’ concerns, and work to improve school climate. They run fun events and support our community through volunteer activities.

PRIDEA senior leadership team that is made up of grade 11 and 12 students whose purpose is to build school spirit, enhance character development, and demonstrate student leadership through the characteristics of productivity, respect, intelligence, determination and empathy.

LINK CREWGrade 11 and 12 students serve as leaders and mentors to the incoming grade 9 students. Orientation activities provide a positive transition from middle school to high school.

COUNCILS

CANCER SOCIETY’S ANNUAL DAFFODILS CAMPAIGN

MSS participates every January in the Mississauga Cancer Society’s Daffodils campaign to raise funds for cancer awareness and research.

MSS & THE UNITED WAY OF PEEL

MSS supports the UNITED WAY campaign to raise awareness for the needs of the Peel community and to fundraise to help various Peel charities achieve their annual goals . Activities include silent auctions, bake sales and student performances.

TERRY FOX

MSS, since its opening, has been a supporter of the Terry Fox Foundation. The focus has been on whole-school participation accomplished through the Annual Terry Fox Challenge in which clubs, classes and teams compete in a relay-style 10 kilometer race.

VOLUNTEERING

Like all secondary school students in the province, MSS students are required to complete 40 hours of volunteer service in the community in order to graduate.
