• What is it?– Economic Education Development Act

• Purpose– To make sure students put thought into career

choices before graduating high school

• Who does it affect?– All 9th and 10th graders– Rising 9th graders choose a “Cluster”.– Rising 11th graders choose a “Major”.

How the EEDA affects your student?

• Core requirements will remain the same for diploma.

• Students will have to declare a major.• Students can change major in the spring

during registration process.• Allows for guidance in career interests.• Both college and vocational services are

offered with the help of Swofford Career Center.

• Table of Contents

What is a “Cluster”?

• A grouping of similar classes that relate to a career choice.

• Rising 9th graders choose a “Cluster”.• State of south Carolina has recommended 16

possible clusters.• Cluster will vary between schools and within

districts.• Landrum High School has identified 11 clusters.

(i.e. page 1, 3, 6, 10, 12, 14, 17, 19, 21, 23, 26)• Some clusters will require attendance at

Swofford Career Center.

What is a “Major”?

• Rising 11th graders choose a “Major”.• A specific set of classes within a cluster

that defines a certain career choice.• Majors vary between schools and within

districts.• Landrum High School has identified 26

Majors. • Some Majors will be offered through

Swofford Career Center.

EEDA and the School Registration Process

• Career cluster process has helped to narrow the focus for elective courses.

• Career clusters will have NO effect on core curriculum

• Teacher recommendations are only necessary for the core curriculum classes.

• Career clusters are part of electives.

U.S. History

• Split into 2 classes.

• Class 1: U.S. History to 1877

• Class 2: U.S. History 1877 to present.

• Students are only required to take class 2 however the school strongly recommends that students take both classes. This is because of the End of Course Exam.

• Purpose of Appointment• Guidance will send a letter with a

scheduled time.• If time is inconvenient please call to

reschedule.• It is important that student/parent has

already discussed career choices and classes before meeting with guidance counselor.
