Begemann pumps: since 1871

The search for new solutions, new markets and new

products has made Begemann a market leader with

a focus not only in this country, but world-wide.

The basis of the success of Begemann Pumps was

already established in 1871. In this year Mr. E.H.

Begemann started a little foundry and machiningshop in Helmond, the Netherlands. Soon the

company concentrated on heavy machinery such as

steam engines, steam boilers and centrifugal pumps.

The centrifugal pump was invented in 1875, not by

Begemann, but the company did have the expertise

and know how to successfully connect a centrifugal

pump to a steam engine. As early as 1890 the

company started manufacturing and marketing the

centrifugal pump under the brand name Begemann.

From 1955 onwards the company started to

standardize their production program, resulting in a

high quality range of centrifugal and process pumps,

complying to the industry standards.

In 1992 the American concern Baker Hughes acquired

Begemann Pumps in Helmond and concentrated all

activities in Venlo with Weir Minerals Netherlands.

Established in 1916 as a foundry, Weir Minerals

Netherlands started manufacturing pumps to broaden

the production range. In 1963 they launched their

own product line under the name Geho pumps,which is now a market leading brand in the mining

and minerals processing industry for transporting

ores, minerals and tailings.

Nowadays the company offers two well known

product lines of technologically advanced pumping

systems under the trade name Geho and Begemann

Pumps.

Begemann Q axial flow pump

A special type of axial flow pump for the process and

salt industry. These pumps are used for example for

the circulation of brine.

Roto-Jet pump - OH2

The high-pressure Roto-Jet pump with a stationary

pick-up tube and rotating rotor is produced by our

sister company in Salt Lake City, USA. We maintain

the worldwide distribution rights for this type of

pump in the API market.

Services

A strong service organisation supports the successful

Begemann and Geho pumps. This service is provided

worldwide and is well equipped to work anywhere

under any circumstances. A team of highly-qualifiedservice engineers is responsible for the worldwide

commissioning of the Geho industrial pumps. We

also carry out a ‘Total Pump Care’ programme:

maintenance and repair of our own brands and all

other brands and types of pumps are embraced by

the expertise of our service organisation. In addition,

Venlo acts as the West European regional service

centre for Warman pumps.

Application engineering and material research in our

own laboratory ensures that we can develop a pump

for each system under all circumstances. A reputation

which we have built up, from years of experience

and in-house knowledge. Our specialised pumps are

applied to new and pioneering applications and sold

on the basis of solid research and advice relating to

the desired application.

Our excellently qualified engineering department uses

CAD and CAE programs (3D modelling). To optimise

the pumps we also use CFD analysis (computational

fluid dynamics). Before the pumps leave our factory,

we test them extensively in our modern test stand in

real working conditions, often with the client present.

“Shell PI now called ‘SPEC’ has been the basis of design of both our

vertical in-line, close coupled pump (OH5) and centerline mounted,

single stage overhung pumps (OH2). PI vendors can offer pre-engineered

solutions, selected from their range of standard fit-for-purpose/proven

products. These have been pre-approved by Shell Global Solutions

(SGSI:OGER) for supply to project against the process requirements as

specified on the datasheets. PI agreements are also in place, for the full

range of API 682 seals and sealing systems. The typical cost ownership

of pumps and seals, which are procured in accordance with the PI, is

expected to be 35% lower than those procured in the traditional way.”
