2 CLAIRE MARSH
I am very sorry to
have to report that
Claire Marsh, until
recently the electoral
services manager at
South Lakeland Dis-
trict Council, died on
Saturday after a long
and courageous bat-
tle with cancer.
Those close to her
know that she was a
very special person:
kind, thoughtful, as-
tute and knowledge-
able, highly diligent, and extremely loyal to
her friends and colleagues.
Claire was involved in elections from 1976,
taking the helm in 1995; she had a strong yet
understated leadership style, taking her coun-
cil into the IER county lead role and later the
PARO role, building the capability and confi-
dence in the electoral office staff to be one of
only three authorities embarking on Cabinet
Office 2016 pilots.
Our sincere condolences go out to all her fam-
ily, friends and colleagues.
She was a lovely lady who will be greatly
missed.
CONFERENCE 2017
A s you will
know by
now, next
year’s Annual
Conference
takes place in
Brighton at
the Hilton
Metropole Hotel, from Sunday 5th to Wednes-
day 8th February 2017. As you will also know,
there is an exciting event countdown on the
website. Well, I like it!
The draft Conference programme and book-
ing forms are now available on this page of
the website
ACCESSING THE WEBSITE ON
MOBILE DEVICES
I have had reports that some people are
experiencing problems accessing/logging
in to the website on smartphones and tablets.
I am also aware of many who do not have
problems in similar circumstances!
If you are in the former group, however,
please would you let me know exactly what
issues you are experiencing, including full de-
tails of the device and browser you are using.
I’ll need as much information as possible so I
can let the site developers have a detailed
and accurate report as necessary:

MEMBERSHIP LIAISON AND FORGOTTEN PASSWORDS
Y ou may not know that
our Support Services
Officer (Administration), Chris
Solich, is now dealing with all
matters which require liaison
with members of the AEA, so,
if you need help with any is-
sues relating to your member-
ship, you can contact Chris
by telephone or e-mail. His
details can be found on the
website here. You can also
send a message using the
‘contact us’ form on the web-
site which is automatically
directed to him.
Chris has also taken over re-
sponsibility for settling prob-
lems in relation to the reset-
ting of members’ passwords.
As I’ve mentioned to a lot of
you in the recent past who
have found themselves in the
unhappy position of having
temporary amnesia in this re-
gard (I call it memory stick,
but I would, wouldn’t I?), the
process is being improved
with clearer instructions on
precisely how to execute it so
the evil and incomprehensible
‘passwords do not match’ er-
ror message can be eradicat-
ed! When that work is finally
completed, I’ll let you know.
