The talent was amazing and the students were all fantastic. It was really hard to select one winner. It was absolutely superb. Victoria’s voice filled the school hall and kept everyone enraptured. We have a date for the parentsevening on safety 26 th April a letter will be wending its way to you soon. Please return the reply slip so that we can put out the correct number of chairs. The evening will not be about the controls you can put in place on your home computers but will be more about the unforeseen consequences of social media. Over the Easter holidays hundreds of our students will be revising for their external examinations. This is a great block of time for review and revision. Please help your son/daughter by ensuring that they have a quiet place in which to revise and, if they are on their computer, that they don’t get distracted by Facebook, Tumblr, Instagram, Twitter etc. Revision is rarely successful if a student simply reads. Some students use wallpaper lining as rough paper, sometimes stuck on their bedroom walls to have key information visible, others use ‘library cards’ and write down their notes reducing them until a side of a card contains key words which constitute the content of a topic or theme, whilst others go mind mapping mad. There are many ways to revise and students find their best method or use a range. Examination pressure is a stressful time for students and they will be very anxious. A certain degree of stress is not a bad thing. However, we need to all make sure that they are not over-anxious or too stressed out. Therefore, we need to keep an eye on the wellbeing of our girls and boys. Fresh air, fun, friends and family will help between revision sessions plus the thought of the very long summer break year 11 and 13 will get. Hard work now will pay dividends in the summer and for the future careers of our young people. After the great success of the Centenary Ball in 2014, we are hoping to see even more people dancing the night away to the tunes of “Glitterball” and raising money for the School! Our brilliant students managed to raise over £2900 during charity week for local charities. PE News On Wednesday 2nd March the Southend Schools’ Borough Gala took place at Garons. After losing the trophy last year for the first time in too many years to remember the girls in the “green” hats were determined to win it back, as were the PE staff! There were some fantastic swims and many of the races were incredibly nail biting. Going into the final relay of the day, the team knew that they had to beat WHSG to win not only this race but the overall title. Maisie Robins got the squadron relay off to a brilliant start taking the lead after the first length and the team maintained this lead throughout the race to win not only the squadron relay trophy, but also the overall relay trophy and the overall title by just 1 point to WHSG. And to round the day off Rebecca Cribb was crowned Champion Girl of the Borough Gala. Well done to all the girls who represented the School. They were not only a credit to SHSG and their parents, but also to their swimming coaches, whose expertise in teaching the girls to swim and compete so well is much respected by us all. The under 14 netball team had a convincing win over Fitzwimarc School in the Essex Plate Netball competition. They won the match by 22 goals to 11. Not to be outdone the year 7 netball team also had to play Fiztwimarc in the quarter finals of the Essex Netball Cup and they too had a great win with a scoreline of 21 goals to 11. They will now play Brentwood Ursuline in the semi-final. The under 14 Netball team is now in the plate final to be played on Tuesday 22nd March at the Redbridge Sports Centre.
