Year 4 Home Learning Timetable - Week beg. 11.5.20 Weekly focus: Biographies and Money & Time Please take note of the timing changes on the Home Learning grid from now on. Only a slight adjustment of timing and one subject swap. As always, feel free to complete the tasks in any order of your choosing this is just a guide. Information about Y4’s new layout of Home Learning: We have taken on your feedback and aimed to produce a more streamlined document where you can find the resources for each lesson. You will see a timetable of instructions for each subject, every day. In the pages that follow, you will see resources that are clearly labelled in the correct order of lessons (of course if you are choosing to swap lessons around, these will still be in the pages underneath each day). Underneath Monday’s resources will be Tuesday’ s timetable and so on. If a resource cannot be placed into this document for some particular reason, we will upload it separately to the school’s website. Although this document has a lot of pages, hopefully this will be an easier way for you to access the resources without having to open too many documents at once. Message from Y4 teachers: We hope that learning at home is an enjoyable experience. It is important that we remind you to simply try your best. If you are finding something particularly difficult, move on and come back to it if you have time. If you find something is taking ‘too long’ or you are ready to move on, then please do so. We understand it might be quite difficult to understand something when you are not in a classroom with many more resources to help you and so all we can ask is that you try your best because that is good enough. Parents: If you are looking for extra activities, we would like to direct you to the school’s website where there is a host of websites and resources. A suggested afternoon activities table can also be found at the end of this document. This is a page that has been carefully put together by the Year 4 team that links with our topics to provide extra learning opportunities. A reminder of our Year 4 non-negotiables: Capital letters and full stops. Commas after fronted adverbials. Neat and cursive handwriting. Conjunctions Commas after subordinate clauses. Correctly spelt common exception words Use of paragraphs Proof-read for errors in spelling and punctuation. STEM Challenge! Answer to last week's challenge: 888 + 88 + 8 + 8 + 8 =1,000 This Week's Challenge Solve the unfinished problem: 1=4 2=16 3=64 4=?

Year 4 Home Learning Timetable - Week beg. 11.5.20 Weekly focus: Biographies and Money & Time

Please take note of the timing changes on the Home Learning grid from now on. Only a slight adjustment of timing and one subject swap. As always, feel free to complete the tasks in any order of your choosing – this is just a guide. Underneath Monday’s resources will be Tuesday’s timetable and so on.

A reminder of our Year 4 non-negotiables:

• Capital letters and full stops.

• Commas after fronted adverbials.

• Neat and cursive handwriting.

• Conjunctions

• Commas after subordinate clauses.

• Correctly spelt common exception words

• Use of paragraphs

• Proof-read for errors in spelling and punctuation.

Spiritual

Reflection

Ezra French (9 years old) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekLpn4zKiNU Derek Redmond (Barcelona Olympics 1992) - https://vimeo.com/384025584 How did these people show endurance? When have you shown endurance in the past to overcome a challenge?

Spelling

L.O: I can spell the /sh/ sound as ‘ch’.

Use your focus word cards (make an extra set on bits of paper or print a second set (if you can) and play snap.

English L.O: I can plan a biography about Alfred the Great

Today, you need to think about how you are going to organise all of the information you have researched, in order to write a biography about Alfred the Great. Below is a suggested template for planning, but you may want to do it more as a mind up on a blank piece of paper. Think carefully about the heading and the subheadings that you will use in order to organise your paragraphs. Remember - a plan is to guide your writing – you should not be writing every fact out, it is a way to plan how you will organise your biography step by step.

Music

Lo: I can explore melody and pitch

Task 1: Watch the video below. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zcbkcj6/articles/zp99cj6 Task 2: Say ‘St Mary’s is the best’ in a high pitch and then a low pitch. What do you notice? Task 3: On a scrap piece of paper (or the back of your book), listen to Bob Marley’s ‘3 little birds’ and draw what you hear. When the pitch goes higher draw your line higher, when it goes lower draw your line lower. There is no ‘right or wrong’ way of doing this, you are exploring the different pitch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4sNi2PUiWM Task 4: Create a fun sentence e.g. ‘I

love Jaffa cakes.’ Practise

saying your sentence with

different pitches to make a

tune.

where needed, write the question or ‘quote’ if it’s not a simple calculation (e.g. ‘do you agree?’ etc)

Reading

Read a book of your own choosing for 15 minutes.

After you have read, pick 6 words and find their definition.

Spiritual Reflection

Say the School Creed together. How successful have you been at showing endurance this week? Look back at your message to yourself from Monday. Is there something you would like to add and look back on next week to encourage yourself even more to show endurance? Were there times when you did not show endurance and gave up too easily? What can you learn from that time? Is there something that can help you when you face a challenge in the future?

Spelling

L.O: I can spell the /sh/ sound as ‘ch’.

Please see the page below for the spelling activities.

English L.O: I can write a biography about Alfred the Great

Today, you are going to write your biography about Alfred the Great. Use the checklist below to help you to keep to the features of this genre. You may wish to complete your biography on a Powerpoint, as a poster, type it up, or write it up in your Home Learning book. Remember to include diagrams and pictures to enhance your presentation – you may even be able to print some images from the internet. You still need to think about the wider skills you have been taught this year in English: (see the pages below for a checklist)

History

LO: I can create my own Anglo-Saxon king/queen.

You have been learning lots about biographies and Anglo-Saxon kings this week. Your task is to create your own Anglo-Saxon king and create a fact file using any form. This could be a Powerpoint presentation, poster, leaflet or even a video. You will need to include:

● The name of your King/Queen (Use the Anglo-Saxon name generator.)

● What part of England do they rule over?

● What famous battles have they been in?

● A picture of them. ● Their weapon/shield of

choice. ● Their key beliefs (e.g.

My Queen thinks that all children should practise sword fighting from 5 years old.)

Remember: To be creative as possible. There is no ‘right or wrong’ King/Queen.

NB: Write your answers in full and where needed, write the question or ‘quote’ if it’s not a simple calculation (e.g. ‘do you agree?’ etc)

NB: Please see the next few pages for some challenges that make you STOP and THINK. Stem challenges at the bottom of the document.
