Lecture and Activities: Week of October 27, 2014

Lecture: Conclusion of Chapter 6 and 7, pg. 55 – 75. 1. When you are a person of color and living in an underserved or disadvantaged

community, it is dangerous to “think” [of your current surroundings or situations]. Thinking will force you to improve self or unique household, or depression will be your new physical struggle.

2. Many poor blacks felt abandoned by their own who had explored entrepreneurship or college degrees. Such groupings of blacks didn’t know how to treat their skilled ones, or act around such new ways in their communities.

3. You need capital, credit, and training experiences to pursue productive entrepreneurship.

4. The author had the point of view “Why would anyone want to participate in local places of worship in America or Europe?” Quick summary of history of religion, pg. 58.

5. Communities need to speak up if they are unwilling to be a customer, or member of a certain business or place of worship. By not doing so causes communities to become dysfunctional, and sets them up for economic failure when competing with outside or external business trends.

6. Religious leaders target youth to begin the next generation’s membership roll for their given denomination or sect.

7. If you pursue of the unordinary business activities in your community, you may have a smaller customer or membership base compared to the majority business activities: productive or not-so productive profits will be the outcome.

8. Prominent leaders would have two families --one of the socially excepted, and another, secretly, out of the underserved (with black females or poor white females).
