Screencasting Project: Creating a formula to calculate several numbers

Task analysis: When a data analysis is needed, most analysts use Excel or Numbers to create a sheet for budgeting, finance, and even savings plans. Most times, these sheets become very busy with numbers that need calculations at the end. What could be the most efficient and less time consuming way to calculate these digits? Formulas are a wonderful tool to use to add a lengthy list of numbers. It may sound simple to enter a formula, but it involves a very important process. You have to make sure you have all requirements complete and all needed cells in this formula in order for it to give accurate results. Script:

2narrationIm going to show you how to add several digits from cells and to use a formula to figure out the answer.

3Close up As you can see, Numbers is on my Dock. I will scroll down and click on the icon to open the program.

4narrationFor this demonstration, lets just perform a simple addition problem

5Close upUmmmIt will prompt you to open a document. Youll want to click on New Document that in the bottom left hand corner of the window.

6Close up Scroll over and click on Blank Document, then click choose.

7Close upYoull want to select a cell in the document. Im going to choose the cell A1 to start my problem, then Im going to continue to type in numbers, then hit enter to continue the process all the way down to A10.

8Close up In A11 im going to press EQUALS, type SUM, open parenthesis, highlight the cells A1 through A10, then close the parenthesis. Once Im done, Ill press ENTER and youll have your answer!

9Close up This is a quick and easy way to calculate several numbers in numbers.
